Player Discussion Lane Hutson: Part 3 - Calder Edition

Hutson and Demidov are so dynamic, and together I think they'll be very good at keeping our attack unpredictable and creative. I think about how much Hutson is doing despite his size. he's always going to be small, but once he's grown and filled out he's going to be able to make some plays he can't right now.

He has to work so hard sometimes to make simple plays that other D would not be able to make at all; sometimes they're close calls but I think when he gets to his physical maturity it's going to be even easier for him to make those plays and be that much deadlier.

When you look at someone like Caufield, he's only gotten better as he's grown into his frame too. He's a little tank and he's made the most of the advantages of having his size (getting under people, needing less space to shoot etc) and I think Hutson will benefit similarly.

Before the season started, I would be very happy with 35 pts and flashs of his amazing offensive ability.

Now after 65 games, 51 pts, more than flashs of his offensive ability but also a very good year in defensive zone. Yeah, some mistakes, but generally, he on the right position, can stop play, can steal the puck aswell.

I always know he is going to be a very good one, but in his 1st year?!?! That's impressive.

I just want him to have an insane game or two just to distance the calder competition further.

IMO its close, but Hutson clearly is just that much better than Celebrini/Michkov. I haven't seen Wolf enough but I get that argument for him, as it was the one for a rookie named Carey Price.

Like Laraque said, if Hutson put 60 pts, he will win the calder, 100%.

He just need to put 9 pts in 17 games, he can do that!

His NHL edge stats are insane.

I noticed his speed taking a huge stride this year and it has. He's 95th+ percentile in everything. The top speed he's attained this year is actually at 99th percentile (among defensemen), at 23.77mph.
