His defense was really good vs Utah. Probably his best all around game of the season.

Couple times people tried to take him 1on1 and he broke it up with the stick, and he's smart about getting the puck to safe areas in the defensive zone

Not saying he's going to be a defensive beast but league average defense despite the lack of physicality is still definitely in the cards

Same guy who compared Kotkaniemi to Beliveau btw

Scotty Bowman knows nothing

I’m not sayin’, I’m just sayin’….

Miller: Hutson stats eerily similar to Quinn Hughes

Full disclosure, I haven’t listened to this yet. Saw it and figured I’d post it here because it looks interesting.

Hughes is just better , point blank

But it suuuuuuuure is AWESOME to have something damn near close to it
He's already better than Adam Fox
You just NEED this type of guy if you want to go anywhere basically
There's like 5-6 in the whole league at any time
But right now? We've got one of them lol
Let's not waste it

Pretty sad that we could have got Hughes but Timmins didn't think he could defend.
I guess you can only have one of them on your team though so it's all good!

I keep waiting for the fans to start chanting "Lane, Lane,Lane!" every time he is carrying the puck. I mean, Latendresse had it in his rookie season. Kovalev had it.

15. Lane Hutson: Calder favorite

Over the last month, Hutson has 16 points in 14 games, 59 percent of the expected goals and has outscored opponents 17-7 — good for an average Game Score of 1.98. Among defensemen, that’s second to only Josh Morrissey.

Hutson has definitively arrived and in a very tight Calder race, it feels like he’s pulled ahead. Especially after a three-assist night against Utah on Tuesday. With a 10-2-1 record over the last month, Montreal has been the league’s hottest team. Hutson’s breakthrough as a legitimate star defender is a big reason for it.

So we are comparing Lane Hutson to Norris candidates now.:skeptic:

I wonder how well Makar/Q. Hughes compared to Norris candidates in their rookie season.

What's this list for and why is he 15th? 😅

Pretty sure Hughes was really high on Timmins list. For the umpteen time, a head scout doesn't draft for need. That's a GM's prerogative. Drafting KK was a Bergevin move. He wanted a center. Same reason KK was rushed and entered the league at 18.

I know Hughes D was widely criticized in his sophomore year, was it better on his rookie year? Did he play as hard minutes as Hutson did? Genuinely asking.

It shouldn’t be controversial to make this comparison imo. Didn’t Hutson get to 30 points faster than Hughes and Makar as rookies?

I see no reason he can’t be as good as them in his prime.

Hughes has a few years on him................if we get Hutson to continue to develop, he will be our Quinn Hughes, no doubt in my mind.
Give the kid a few seasons.
