Sorry but you dont win cups with players like Caufield on your 1st line.
Caufield isn’t proven yet. But I think he establishes himself this year as a premier scorer. And yes, absolutely you win cups with those kinds of players. In fact it’s hard to win without those kinds of players.
He's going to end up as a 2nd line sniper that will score if he plays with 2 good linemates. Slaf and Demidov are the players that will bring you a cup
It takes a mix of players. And judging by how things are going, we’re going to wind up with lines 1A and 1B.

At the end of the day, you need to score to win. Demidov isn’t even in the league yet and Caufield hasn’t been healthy enough over a season to show what he can do. But if Caufield is scoring at a 50 goal rate, that’s absolutely a guy who qualifies for the first line. If you have choices like Dmeidov and Slaf then it simply becomes a game of mixing and matching. They may put Slaf with Cc for size reasons for example but maybe they’re centered by Dach or Hage…

The nice part is that Hutson can play with ALL those guys and help the entire lineup.

I think he’ll always be streaky, but as long as his highs stay what they are he will be a great goalscorer.
I’m not so sure about the streaky part. He was really consistent in that 82 game stretch. Last year was a bit of an anomaly because of the shoulder but I think he’ll be a pretty consistent scorer.

That being said, he’s on a crazy heater right now and I don’t see him finishing with 82 goals.

I don’t know why this is his nickname, and I don’t wanna know, but it’s hilarious

I’m going to assume

Please show me which past cup champions team in the last 20 years had a guy like caufield as a sniper? Caufield is a complement to a 2nd line, he cant win 1v1 battles and in playoffs he will have even less time than now.
“A guy like Caufield as a sniper” - so now you’re going to argue that there are no five foot seven snipers who’ve won cups… guess what? I doesn’t matter. The keyword here is ‘sniper’.

I don’t give a shit how big he is, he scores goals. And he had no issues doing it as a raw rookie in the playoffs.

Scoring goals wins you cups. That’s how it works. At the end of the game you tally up the goals scored and the team who scored the most wins the game.

Mike Bossy, Guy Lafleur, Geordie Howe, Martin St Louis, Jaromir Jagr, Rocket Richard, Alex Ovechkin, Patrick Kane…all played very different games from one another. Each were unique and played their own way. But they all scored goals and all won cups doing it. At the end of the day what matters is if you can put the puck in the net or not.

As I said, CC is mostly unproven. I’m certainly not saying he’s the next Mike Bossy. But there’s every indication that he could be a premier scorer in this league. That’s not something you dump or cast off. Goals are the single most important thing a skater can contribute - I don’t think you’re placing enough value on this.

obviously you dont differiencate playoff hockey than regular season hockey. Caufield scored most of his goals short side in the left circle this year, but generated almost no offense other than that. it is WAY harder to score in playoffs. I trade Caufield for a bigger winger that can make 70 pts anyday of the week. Debrincat was a 40 goals scorer but got traded 2 times, because hes almost unidimentionnal.

Goaltending, overall defense, opportunist and luck wins you cups, a lineup of 12 caufield would get destroyed vs 12 matt tkatchuk in playoffs hockey. have a good day

2 of his 10 goals were from coming down the right side on a rush against 1 or 2 attackers, from afar.

He's had 2 goals from close to the net.

Stop it with your ridicule reductions to creative a narrative. You just show your ignorance and bias.

Maybe if you watched more than 3 games you would realise he scored 5 goals short sided, 1 off the rebound for a tap in, his goal yesterday was low pad off the rush. Show me the other goals expert guy

CAUFIELD IS NOT A 1ST LINER

He kept a 17.7 s% for 83 consecutive games. His shooting% will normalize, but I doubt it will be lower than 18-20% (which is also what he had when he finished with 8 goals in 9 games at the end of last season), which should give him at least 50 goals.
yea at least 50 goals for our superstar Caufield, 42 will be shortsided he shouldve signed for 11M a year he will bring us a cup

I’ll wait and see but this is his pedigree. It always was. His draft day comparable was Messi.

People kind of edged off goal scoring prediction totals to be safe. And I get it somewhat: he’s super tiny.

But I think that was the wrong tack. His size (and skating at the time) would prevent him from BEING an NHLer period.
BUT if he made it and didn’t get killed, he was always gonna score a shit ton of goals.

There’s still some debate about his overall effectiveness which is fine. But I don’t think anyone thinks he’s not an NHLer. With that out of the way, he likely becomes one of the better goal scorers of his generation.
Just about everything points to that.

The best reason to doubt Caufield is that he’s a Hab. That will always be the biggest obstacle because of this bizarre curse. But that’s the only valid reason I can see him not being an elite sniper in this league

If only he could have a good one timer and use that the PP i think he could put up 50 goals and maybe 70 pts. He will probably reach that number once hes on a 2nd line not facing top pair D night after night. Yesterday Hutson feeded him like 2x on the 5v3 and he couldnt manage to hit the net, missed puck once also. He's gotta bring up his efficiency on the one T

Maybe not in the last 20 yrs but some of us are old enough to remember a 5ft 7" 172 lb sniper with his number in the rafters, 8 cup rings, a Conn Smythe. Good thing Mgmt back in the day didn't give up on the Road runner after putting up goal totals of 7, 18, 25 in his 1st 3 seasons. He went on to lead the habs in goals in 68-69, 70-71, 71-72 and 73-74. He was 2nd 2 some guy named Beliveau a few more years.

Not saying Caulfield is the road runner but we finally have a guy who may be a legit sniper for the 1st time in 40 yrs lets not trade him for Turner Stevenson just yet.

We've already seen Caufield in the playoffs and he was one of our most lethal point producers. He's only gotten better as an offensive player since then.

Yes im glad we have a goal scorer. But trolls like Grate Colerful whatever think hes a playdriver, a guy that will make us win in playoffs. Caufield scored from alot of impossible angles, its amazing but i'll be patient and see him in playoffs when 6'4 defenseman dont give him an inch. These kind of people also think that Suzuki is our 1C for a cup, hes not. The building of the core started with slaf reinbacher and demidov, suzuki and caufield will be 2nd liners behind these all stars

So you're putting hall of famers and some of them are monsters physically in the same sentence of a 2nd line sniper at 5'7?

Kane is a superstar, top 5 american player ever, made everybody better, not even close to Caufield.

Like when he was scoring goals against Vegas and being one of our best players against Tampa in the cup final, or when he was setting up overtime winners against the big bad Jets?

like he scored 4 goals, 8 assists with a -5 differential, got pushed around, won 15% of his 1v1 battles, gave the puck over, got hit, yes I remember i analysed every shift he made. Price and the defensive team effort got them there. If montreal had offense that year they couldve had a chance against tampa

He played against the Jets, Vegas and Tampa.. bigger teams, especially on the back end, and was scoring big goals, making big plays.. He's proven it already, so trying to manufacture this reality where he won't be effective in the playoffs to discredit the player is silly.

He's been there.
He did it.
He was a rookie.

He's only better and stronger now.

Jets were very bad defensively, theres a reason they got swept by a very bad team in Montreal. Caufield will never be able to win 1v1 battles, if you played at the junior major league level you would realise how hard it is to fight in corners against guys 40 pounds heavier and 6" taller. You dont win games with snipers, you win games with puck possession time, battles, gaining every inch you can, forechecking, hitting, blocking shots. Theres a reason no past cup champions had a 5'7 unidimentionnal sniper in their top 6. Next time you watch a habs game look carefully how painful it is for caufield to keep the puck while having a guy on his back and thats regular season.

Yesterday instead of blocking the wrister from the point he moved away and deflected it with his stick. Thats unacceptable

Suzuki was amazing in his first playoffs thought.
