To an extent yes.

But once you start doing that it gets real slippery real fast and it just ends up being a coping mechanisim for fans of bad teams. Because does this only apply to Hutson, or does it then apply to every other player as well?

And now MTL is closer to middle of the pack. Do I get to use this justification to pick a bunch dmen with much worse results than Hutson on the REAL bottom feeders over him??

If I'm going to be off in estimating the gap of help, I'd MUCH rather be off in rewarding guys who are contributing to winning

And I can almost GUARANTEE if you went down the washington capitals forward roster and compared it to MTLs, these people wouldn't be saying there is a massive talent gap in favour of washington.

Washington is elite imo because of 3 elite defensive pairs. They aren't getting carried by the forward group. I see no reason to discount Sandins results because washington has other pairings (who he doesn't play at the same time as) that are also very good


Regardless, Hutson has played at an elite level lately as I stated. It's his poor start dragging him down in overall. The longer he keeps this up and distances himself from that, he will continue to rise.

Or should I discount his latest results because MTL has been on a heater lately?

Hmm...seems to me that you will elevate Sandin because he contributes to a good team but you don't see the possibility that Hutson is a huge reason for The Habs surge.

There is also the fact that you are comparing Sandins 7th year (270 games) to Hudson's 1st year (44 games)

The question wasn't "who will be better if every player was at the exact same stage in their careers".

A strange thread considering he hasn't even completed a single season in the NHL.

I'm sure down the road he'll be in the top 30 easy, but for now I went with 50-60.

Sandin leads them in ice time, but only if we ignore ice time per game, and go by total, and only if we ignore PP or SH ice time, and only if we ignore 4 on 4, and 3 on 3...

If he's an elite contributor to the best team in the East, as he claims, why do the Capitals slot three other defenders ahead of him for even strength ice time?

I can't believe this is even a conversation... Where do you rank Rasmus Sandin on the Capitals blue line depth chart?

the thread is about where hutson ranks currently in the nhl. years of experience don't matter. certain player have declined and once played at a higher than hutson does now. should we rank all of them at their peak or assumed peak?
