Lane Hutson Burgeoning Star Watch

Bottom line is they ended up with Hutson who will easily be the biggest steal in the draft. Could be one of the biggest draft steals ever. I have Luc robitaille being picked in the 9th rd [ 171st OA ] the biggest draft steal ever.
Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Fedorov, Vyacheslav Kozlov, Konstantinov, Osgood, Knuble, Holmstrom, Fleischmann, Filpulla, Jonathan Ericsson, Kyle Quincey, Franzen.

All late round gems. The Red Wings drafting from the late ‘80s to early ‘00s was truly something else.

They got Lidstrom, Drake, Fedorov, and Konstantinov in a single draft - all 3rd round or later in ‘89.

Who the hell was their Director of Scouting? Insane.

This is how Ottawa and Vancouver fans felt defending their guy against haters for years isn't it.
Honestly, I've recently experienced some mild guilt for my treatment of Sens fans during the Karlsson days. I didn't understand how they could be so happy with a guy who was constantly turning the puck over. I think Hutson is already a better defender than Karlsson was back in those days, but still - the Sens were unquestionably better when Karlsson was on the ice, and I think I finally understand why they defended him so vociferously.

...Habs went through the same BS with Subban...

Well clearly they had good information because they got him at 62. And you know who wouldn’t have been there at 62? Mesar or Beck. It was a calculated risk and they calculated correctly.
There has no need for a risk. We are talking about late first and early second. There has no way for Kent to be 100 % sure no others NHL team has Hutson in their second round list. New jersey literally drafted a D with the same size as Hutson. We got a little bit of luck with Hutson.

If Kent truly saw in Hutson a 50+ D. He would have draft him in the first round and run away with it. No need to gable/risk losing him for average player like Mesar or Beck. Honestly, people give Kent way to much credit for Hutson draft.

A 2nd round pick will never be the biggest draft steal ever when you have guys like Robitaille, Lundqvist, Kaprizov, Datsyuk that have had great careers and were drafted much, much later.

Even in Montreal, just off the top of my head Andrei Markov is a bigger "draft steal."

I wouldn’t even call Markov a steal, rather than just an anomaly. The Habs drafted him as a center. He converted to D after being drafted.

I'm just wondering if his odds of being rookie of the year go up if Montreal makes the playoffs while Philly, San Jose and Calgary miss them.

You’re literally upset about something that didn’t happen. Clearly Kent knows more than you because he got him at 62. Whether you think it was smart or not is irrelevant. Maybe he would have dropped to 100. Who knows. But Kent got the guy he wanted in a spot that’s making every other team look stupid.

I was quoted a few weeks back that I hope Montreal makes the playoffs. Montreal fans have made me change my mind.

I don’t think it’s fair to generalize all Montreal fans like that. Yes, there are a significant amount of them that are more interested in proving people wrong instead of supporting their team.

But we need to remember that just because there are a lot of homers on this site does not mean that all of the Montreal fans are like that.

Can you imagine Savard wearing goalie equipment  Can't get the image out of my head :laugh:
