Lane Hutson Burgeoning Star Watch

Famously cocky Lane Hutson, after scoring 3 points in a 3-2 win against Florida last night and playing over 26 minutes, is on the ice for optional practice in Montreal.

He was also on the ice for optional practice on Monday, the only Habs player to do so, the day after again scoring 3 points in a win against Florida.

A reporter asked why he was on the ice and his answer was that hockey is his life and he doesn't really have hobbies.

If he take a liking to fishing he might just pull a Big Buff, I know I would, fishing is the best hobby
I'm a cyclist. Anything that allows one to do some meditation and clearing your head. I guess I could fill up one of those fluid retenion back packs with beer to achieve something similar to fishing.

It was so cocky the way he praised all his teammates and downplayed his own production while saying how great it is to play against the best players in the world when asked about the records he's breaking.

...I used to love going Ice Fishing with my Grandfather when I was young; we'd just sit and chat for hours in that little shack, barely catching anything... :biglaugh:
Catching fish is a nice bonus but not what fishing is first about, to me it's just a great excuse to go out and explore Quebec's wilderness. 1.3 million lakes, you can barely take a piss without stumbling into one. Been a Montreal all my life so I've seen enough concrete for a lifetime

yup, can't give too much credit to Hughes for this one. He felt that Slaf, Mesar and beck were better prospects. Just got lucky he was there with the Oilers pick at 62

That's actually not true, Habs release information/tape from their draft and Habs Upper management group wanted to take him earlier and their scouting execs were sure he'd be available in the 3rd round. Eventually they stopped chancing it and picked him at 62.

This is pure BS. If they really believed Hutson will be a great D in the NHL. They would not have took so much risk and would have draft him in the first round pick (Mesar pick).

We are not talking about drafting Hutson in the top 10. You don't take such big risk of losing him. You draft him late first or early Second (Beck Pick). They got lucky.

well then they clearly saw him as a low percentage lottery ticket if thats the case.

Well clearly they had good information because they got him at 62. And you know who wouldn’t have been there at 62? Mesar or Beck. It was a calculated risk and they calculated correctly.

I was going to make a point about the teams picking 63,64,65 making that same calculated risk and losing out but funny enough those were the Rangers, Senators and Islanders first picks of the 2022 draft.

Blackhawks had 5 picks in the top 60 that year.
