Sheesh, he’s definitely proven me wrong. Don’t think there’s any way he’s not the front runner for a Calder rn. One of the best starts to a career by a rookie defenseman ever. I’m sold.
The kid has a ton of talent.........35 pts after last night, in 43 games as a rookie.
if he stays healthy, he will finish up there with Celebrini and Michkov. Tight race.

He’s like an Adam Fox/Quinn Hughes morphed into one. At this point, I think he’s the front runner. I love Celebrini, but what Hutson’s doing as a defenseman is incredible.

A summer of working on his overall skating ability and defensive game, he’ll be a top 5 defenseman in short order.

Paging @dgibb10 .....
tell me how Hutson would be in the AHL if he were a Devil, since he's outscoring every Devils dman as a rookie?
I know you will disagree but I think in NJ he never gets the chance he’s gotten with MTL. Casey had three goals in a handful of games and was sent down. NJ has two defenders ahead of him to play on the PP and they wouldn’t have asked Hutson to play a defensive role. Nor would they ask him to play on his off side. He’s in a perfect spot with MTL and to be fair he’s much better now than he was earlier. NJ has tried to win every game from the first game this season and did not prioritize development. NJ is really asking its defenders to patrol the middle of thr ice and down low and at the boards with defense being priorities one and two. It’s just an apples and oranges situation not a referendum on Hutson. That aside Hutson has grown as a player tremendously since the beginning of thr season. He’s been lights out for MTL recently. Very exciting player with thr puck. Easily one of the most advanced on ice IQ players.

Edit - take a look at the post a few pages back with the rolling average charts and the one close to that with the Twitter post that covers his splits. Thr first 23 games were nothing special. He’s taken off since then and he’s been better than even optimistic projections but in NJ he never gets the opportunity based on his first few games.

He'll always be somewhat of a flawed defensive who Montreal will want to shelter/insulate, but he's proving that he can become more than good enough in his own end. Pairing him with a great skater in Matheson was really smart - a smooth skating shutdown D man would be the perfect partner for him down the line.

It's hard to find a great comparable for him because he's so unique. He'll never be solid defensively like Adam Fox, but they have similar offensive tendencies (though Hutson is more dynamic), but he's shown he should be better defensively than guys like DeAngelo, Gostisbehere, Bouchard, and Hamilton.

Regardless, sky is the limit for this kid. What a great pick by Hughes.
Would have agreed earlier this year but I’m actually not so sure anymore

His IQ is through the roof and his compete level is insane, he’s been beyond impressive defensively lately

Lmfao What muscle is that? Quads dont work like that. Looks like silicon injections tbh
Well, HFHabs has a whole thread (or huge part of one ?) on it. This thing as been dissected maniacally for a whole month. You are free to join in on the fun but you have to understand that mentally speaking, we Habs fan aren’t the most stable HF dwellers around. You’ll feel right at home if you understand that we pretty much wear straight jackets most of the time.

As much as people don't want to admit it, the floor remains an AHL all star type due to the lack of size. (I am prepared for a significant amount of people to not understand what floor means).

If he can't hang with NHLs size and speed, it's gonna be tough to keep him around.

Ty Smith, Will Butcher, Reilly Walsh come to mind from guys I know.

Undersized dmen with very good point production who just can't stick at the NHL level
you really nailed it with this one...........

A lot of bad takes because

1. Most posters don't actually watch games of other teams. They pretend they do, but they don't. So when they talk about Lane Hutson, they are talking about an imaginary player that exists solely in their head.
2. Their opinions are formed by stat sheets and lazy narratives based on a player's physical proportions and attributes. "Oh, he's small and is offensive, he must be Marc-Andre Bergeron." Complete lack of nuance.
3. They make their judgments based on the team the player plays for instead of what they actually do on the ice.

There were many habs fans skeptical that his game would translate to the big leagues. We were super hopeful, but we had a healthy skepticism. Then he played those two games against the Red Wings at the end of last season and it was 100% clear that this was a special kid. It reminded me of when the habs called up Subban against the flyers in 2009, and it was apparent that the game would translate.

It's a shame because a lot of posters are missing out on a special player.

Why? You don't believe me?
I don’t believe that you were trying without success to convince stubborn habs fans that lane hutson was a better fit for pp1 than mike matheson, no i don’t believe that happened.

Im not saying you didn’t say that, im saying i find it hard to believe that there were habs fans that disagreed with you if you did say it

It's Chasey Lane because everyone is always chasing him and also he had a highly publicized brief fling with Chasey Lain this summer.
How is she doing nowadays? Was always a fan
