You can show me whatever chart you want, it will not convince me that Hutson is a better skater than Hughes. Hughes is a tier above. That said, Hutson is alot faster than he looks out there, his stride is odd and choppy but ya, in no world is he a better skater than Hughes.
These aren’t really advanced stats, they’re measurements

Watching the Habs vs Nucks last night I don't understand the Hughes (I wanted him instead of KK btw) and Hutson stylistic comparison. Hughes is just an unbelievable skater and amazing QB with great poise, I am a huge fan. Hutson seems to have a better offensive mind with the puck on his stick but is not in Hughes league at all when it comes to skating. They're both amazing players that control the game in different ways.

No matter if you think he's a better skater or not, Hutson is just as quick and can change direction and turn around just as quick, which is all that matters.

What would convince you that one player is a better skater than the other?
My eyes are enough. Having watched Highes since his days back in Michigan he's always been the best skater on the ice, similar skating style to Scott Niedermayer or prime Erik Karlsson. He has multiple gears and the ability to blow by guys by making 2-3 powerful strides. Hutson doesn't have those multiple gears and relies on other things to beat the opposition. Not saying he's a bad skater, in fact I think his skating is a bit underrated by some because of how awkward it looks, but he just doesn't have that separation someone like Hughes has.

huh? You really need to look at Hutson's skating. Not saying he is better than Hughes at the moment but he is not that far behind. There are also just as good or better skaters than Hughes around the league.

As I mentioned, his skatnig is fine, but it isn't his primary weapon he utilizes to beat the oppositon, it is for Hughes. If you go and rewatch the 2nd period last night you'll see multiple times he was 2nd to pucks dumped in his corner, that just doesnt happen to someone like Hughes.

I am a big fan of both, just pointing out stylistical differences.

Hughes has never really been a burner. It's his edges (especially with the puck) that make him an incredible skater, not speed.

That said, I maintain that it's hilarious looking back how many people said that Hutson was a poor skater, even early on this season.

I don't really know if Hutson is a good skater or not. But I have seen so many times Hutson evaded the defenders with a burst of speed. He may not be a smooth skater like Hughes but he does have amazing acceleration.

I find it hilarious that Habs fans haven't yet made constant comparisons to Makar, lest they suffer the wrath of Avs fans descending upon them like Satan's minions.

Hughes is much safer!

Ya agreed, it's mainly because of his awkward looking stride. Probably a big reason why he went so deep in the draft.

IF you analyze his stride from a technical standoint, there's actually alot he can improve on. He has a tendency of wasting energy ''hopping'' on the ice rather than a forward push. He does it a lot less than he used to and I'm expecting that to dissapear from his stride as he gains strength.

I just looked at the 2022 draft and I think you're right, as crazy as that sounds....I'm a Habs fan and wear Habs fan goggles, but it's hard for the other fan bases to argue this point. 62nd overall the best pick of the draft, you don't see that very often at all. I can only think of Kucherov (58th in 2011), and Bure (#113 in 1989) if he had not busted his knee, but both had Russian doubts associated with the pick.
Datsyuk at 171 as well

Well we did just play you guys last night so it's normal I guess. They were probably the best 2 players on the ice outside of JT Miller so ya, that's why there's so much mention of your boy in here today lol

Hutson won't be better than Hughes but he will be better than Makar

Sooo... Hutson's already better than Fox then?

As it has been said on the Habs board, if Hutson was a Fig, we'd be having Norris conversation instead of Calder, right about now. TSN would be all Hutson.
