This is some serious copium.

He's a top 4 dman on one of the best teams in the league, but was a 6/7 on that joke of a Canadiens defense? He's been a big part of the devils success this year.

Thanks for giving him up for peanuts!
do you think Kovacevic was a top4 dman last year???

asking you because I feel like you’re good at drowning out the noise and forming your own opinions but how would you rate Hutson’s skating? How do you think it stacks up compared to other skaters and do you have comparables?

Feels fitting that his first goal comes from within the flow of an offenses cycle game. Not that it was into a full cycle yet, but quick puck movement, quick step up, quick shot.

He's got elite agility and very good top speed. His transition and backwards skating are areas where he could improve, but he's made some nice improvements there in the last two years.

It's tough to find a comparison among defenseman, because he's a very choppy skater, which is much more common among forwards. He's a little reminiscent of how Johnny Gaudreau skated.

He's also not the most fluid backwards skater. Mark Giordano struggled similarly, but he was obviously a lot bigger, making it easier to get away with.

and you tough Nemec was a top rd too. They played Guhle on the right side because none were able to play top4 min
Yeah and Nemec had a 54.6% xGoals share before phoning it in after we shut down Jack for the year. Absolutely excellent.

Then him and Casey sucked together as a pairing this year, so both were sent down when Luke and Pesce came back. Don't know what that has to do with him last year tho.

He probably would have gotten more time to figure it out (ideally with a veteran partner), but Kovacevic and Siegs were playing so well that there was no way we were taking him out of the lineup.

Thanks for the assessment, never a bad thing to be compared to Johnny

the devils have 3 d-pairs with different roles. kovacevic is part of the shut down pair. if he is a top 4d, hamilton isn't and we pay him 9m.

I'd take Kovacevic at 5v5 over Hamilton, and it's not even remotely close. I'd trade Hamilton for a bag of pucks tomorrow for the cap space alone.

Dillon - Hamilton has been easily our worst D pairing.

On pace for 50 pts at 20 years old. That's really good... on a mediocre team too.
Great talent but imo it would be even more impressive on a good team. Eating big minutes and producing well while the team is good defensively and successful overall is a tougher ask than to produce well on a bad team.
