New York Islanders: Lamoriello Contract Not Renewed; John Collins Searching for Next GM

if we're to believe that Lou has a deal in place to be Malkins advisor (non hockey) and Darche has to run things through Malkin for approval (not all things , you get the idea)then I'd imagine Malkin is certainly going to ask Lou if this is a good/bad idea .

these guys wanted Holland , Gorton (no permission) badly and by the time Shanny became available they were already 90 % of the way down the path of hiring either Bergevin / Darche .

So they guilted themselves into hiring Darche?

If they wanted Shanahan that badly, then they could have hired him. The Isles were the only vacancy sign out there, so despite the faux ‘we need a GM now’ mantra, they were not competing with any one.

I am sure the owners are just concerned with hiring the best candidate

That’s a bit of a stretch.

They coulda hired Holland the day after Lou was not renewed - he wasn’t the target obviously. He was part of the due diligence process. Same with Bergevin.

I mean in fairness, if Holland never wanted to come here (which certainly seems like the case) then they actually couldn't have hired him at any point - Much less the day after Lou was let go.

Maybe he was interested, but waited for any situation to pop up that was better for him, just as LA did. If LA doesn’t open up, there’s still only the Isles job out there. He would make the decision to pass or take it, if offered.

This seems like the exact opposite argument that you make in regards to Trotz coming to Long Island because you didn't want to give Lamoriello any credit for the hiring.

Seems like...

Isn't.

We'll never know exactly what happened, but what we do know is...

  • Trotz's contract was up with the Caps
  • He wanted 4 million/year...They wouldn't pay it.
  • They let him walk.
  • When they did the Isles were the only job opening for him that offseason.
  • Malkin was willing to meet his price

Stands to reason if Malkin wasn't willing to meet Trotz's price he probably doesn't come here. Carrying the one even further, it seems like it was the extra zeroes on Trotz's contract with the Isles that was the #1 reason he came here.

But the point is...

If Holland never wanted the job, then the Isles never could've hired him.

Everything else is you creating narratives to fit your desired story line.

Dude...

Take a step back from having to be devil's advocate all the time and try to realize you're now talking about 2 different things.

You come at me with WHY Trotz came here...Not IF he wanted to come here. If Trotz "never wanted to come here" then money, Lou, just wanting to work, etc all wouldn't matter. But obviously that's not the case because he did come here...And the debate here is WHY he did. You're making up an alternative reality to fit YOUR desired storyline.

I'm not being a devils advocate, I'm highlighting the inconsistencies of your posts depending upon what you want the story line to be.

We all had to read for years about how Lamoriello should get no credit because there was only one coaching vacancy at the time, so obviously Trotz had to take it. Now, in this scenario you're pointing out the very option many of us tried to tell you for years about Trotz but applying it to someone else. He didn't have to take the job if he didn't want it. In fact, you're still doing it by inventing this imaginary story about how it seems like Trotz wanted to come here for the money over everything else.

Just apply the standards consistently, it's all I ask.

I think it's fair to assume Trotz came here because his price was met. He left the Caps because his price was not going to be met. As a Cup winning coach, if the Isles didn't poney up, he would have just waited until the next coaching job opened up that met his price. All of this is pretty clear.

It's not incorrect to say his salary demands were met, but that much is obvious since he took the job. Saying it's the main, primary, only, etc. reason he came here to discredit the person who brought him in is the issue for me. We have no idea if the salary was the main reason, it was certainly a reason though. If the Islanders met his salary demands and he still didn't like other aspects of the organizations more then he could've just waited.

This is all true. But I don't think Perif and you are on different pages.
