New York Islanders: Lamoriello Contract Not Renewed; John Collins Searching for Next GM

Brind'Amour's fully safe IMHO. People are pretty chill here in the Carolinas to begin with- and hard to throw stones at a team that's routinely playing hockey into late May (even if unsuccessfully). To me the real question is whether he ever wants to try his luck somewhere else (like some place w/an elite goalie?). Sure he's got a pretty nice lifestyle in Raleigh though...
Shanahan and Brind Amour were teammates for one season 35 years ago. Bring Him Home

I don't see why Shanahan would be so against the Isles hiring a GM before him. As long as he feels he can work with him...if he can...great. if he cant...it's an easy fire and no stain on him since he didn't hire him.
He’s inheriting a coach on a 4 year deal. Roy ain’t going anywhere right now.

He knows how to run an organization. President of hockey operations is a lot different than general manager. In my opinion we need someone who can oversee the organization and be an experienced hockey executive. Lou was doing too much.

It’s a way better operation with multiple guys in multiple roles.`
I don't agree with that. This is the Canada version of the Isles Country club. While Shanahan is not the GM, he's in charge of ALL Hockey operations! Toronto was screaming and crying for the team to change the club, specificaly the "Core" , hmm, sound familiar? He would not make the changes - the "Core" - Matthews, Marner, JT, Nylander, Reilly all have been there since 2017-18 season. He did not recognize the problem was them, not everyone else around them. They made changes every year to the rest of the roster, but would never consider trading any of them.

Yeah this is super unfortunate. Maybe he has the good sense to let Roy pick his staff.
That was a fight between Roy and Lou this year. I’m almost certain it’ll happen. Roy brings in a guy who basically makes them unbeatable in the face off dot. Get him 1-2 other guys who can let him run his choice of system with his own player choices and if they don’t show any improvement then he goes.

I think I’d be cool with a Shanahan/Darche pairing. It would definitely give me hope going forward. Maybe even be able to get Marner to follow Shanahan to the Isles.

Why is everyone saying Marner would follow Shanahan. It’s like his boss’ boss’ boss.

If the CEO of your company goes somewhere else, are you following him there?

Yes. If you were leaving the company anyway and your boss says I will give you great salary and a better working environment then he would consider it.

Getting hard to keep track of the full 11 year Toronto soap opera- but the sports talk guys up there today were saying Shanahan was the "Core Four's" ultimate protector at the end of the day- so perhaps he could pitch Long Island as a controllable/safe landing spot for Marner. Who knows though...

Let me see if I understand this correctly ...

You know the worst choking team in the entire NHL over the past decade up in Toronto...? Let's bring as many of their employees over here as possible and see what happens....
