Let's hope if we do Get Shanahan he helps construct a team with Talent AND GRIT....!
This was sorely lacking in Maple Creep-Land

Truth. However if you look back at the picks of Reilly, Nylander, Marner, and Matthews...They basically took the best player at those picks. Not sure how much different they could've done, but....

They 100% should've traded Marner when they signed Tavares and fixed their goaltending/D while adding more character/leadership to the team.

I think looking back he was a "Toronto boy," so they felt they couldn't. Big mistake though.

If Shanahan truly does take a dual POHO/GM role, I would hope they'd have an Associate GM and/or Assistant GMs along with him, preferably people with scouting/player personnel expertise (plus cap and analytics people, etc.). This would actually be a good position for a player personnel guy like Peverley (and AGM would be a promotion for him and therefore DAL might let him go for it). Jarmo as Associate GM/Director of Scouting would actually be good, but I don't see him taking less than a GM role since he'll probably get it from someone at some point.

But my preference would be Shanahan as POHO and a younger guy like Pridham, Campbell, Darche, etc., as GM.

BTW, if Shanahan does take both positions and they put Martin/Hickey into hockey ops roles, they could be groomed to eventually take over as GM. Just a thought.

For the life of me, I have no idea why you hate Jarmo so much.

As Columbus GM, outside of the 1st round (2013-23), he drafted Marchenko at 49, Voronkov at 114, Del Bel Belluz at 44, Bemstrom at 117, Peeke at 34, Gavrikov at 159, Nutivaara at 189, Stenlund at 58, Kolesar at 69, Bjorkstrand at 89 and Merzlinkins at 76.

As St Louis Director of Scouting, the team drafted Pietrangelo, Perron, Backes, Berglund, Oshie, Eller, Stempniak, Polak, Soderberg, Cole, Bishop, etc.

This is a heck of a resume for those not drafted in the 1st round.

The guy knows where and how to find talent

Imagine what periferal would've done if Lou didn't move Nelson at the deadline. Now consider the Panarin/Bobrovsky debacle.

That mean if Shanahan comes here they’re drafting hometown Hagans?

Like Snow? From the rink to the office?

If it ends up being Shanahan — and he does check all of the boxes — my hope is that he comes in ONLY as President of Hockey Ops and NOT as President AND GM.

If he is just President, and hires a GM and its Darche, that would be my first choice. If it is Bergevin (and my gut believes it will be) then we will be OK. I just feel like Darche is the better option and fresher approach.

As far as Shanahan's record in Toronto — i think his bigest error was agreeing with Dubas' approach to bring in Tavares. They never "needed" him. That $11 mil in cap would have been far better spent on a goalie and defensive support and bottom six grind and skill. The Leafs through this era were just so top heavy and dominated by the 5 main guys that there was no room for the rest of the roster.

This doesn't absolve the Traitor, and my utter joy in seeing him, and the Leafs collapse these past 7 years. Pajama Boy's sin in my eyes wasn't that he left. Is that a sign of how Shanny does his business and he could do the same to us? Sure. Could we end up with a team like that and struggle when it matter most? sure. But i just as easily can believe that a lot of the failure in Toronto is the fish bowl and consistent failure mix that is now just in their heads — the players are in their heads and tight and you can't do your thing when you are like that.

If we walk away with Shanny and Darche – yeah — Ill be pretty happy to give that combo a few years to see what they can do. One thing is sure – I don't believe we will be the NHL tire fire or unprofessional with that combo. This wont be like hiring the back up goalie or a complete effing idiot who jumps into the crowd to beat a fan with a shoe who I wouldnt trust to boil water let alone run a hockey team.

Do you guys think Brind Amour survives another sweep? He probably does right? ...right?
Brind'Amour's fully safe IMHO. People are pretty chill here in the Carolinas to begin with- and hard to throw stones at a team that's routinely playing hockey into late May (even if unsuccessfully). To me the real question is whether he ever wants to try his luck somewhere else (like some place w/an elite goalie?). Sure he's got a pretty nice lifestyle in Raleigh though...

32 Thoughts...actually 2:
- If Shanahan's contract runs until June 30th, does he still have to wait until then to join the Isles?
The Draft is June 27th and 28th.
- If the Isles plan on naming Shanahan the President of Hockey Operations and they still plan on bringing in a GM, they should give Shanahan the option to choose between Bergevin and Darche, since both men
were high on their list.

I could see Toronto making Shanahan wait until July 1 to start with the Isles and restrict him from making any hockey decisions with his new team out of spite.

Thank god Dubas signed a long contract to submarine the Penguins.
