IMO, the suits let Shanny do whatever he wanted, the two telcos exerted no pressure beyond keeping the green rolling in.

The Marner thing was something I think I read that Kyper said, but I can’t find it and could wrong. And I also remember reading that one of the reasons the Dubas thing happened was because he wanted to blow up the core and Shanny said no.

Then there was his decision to pick Dubas over Hunter.

And his insistence that they were getting better so they just kept rolling it back with no accountability on the GM or coach.

You want mediocrity with a capital “M”? Pick the guy who helped blow up his internal pay scale by chasing a forward he didn’t need and then stubbornly stuck to that plan for 7 years of abject failure reporting to owners that couldn’t care less as long as the money rolled in in a market a monkey could make money in.

But if Shanahan is POHO, the idea is the he builds the organization and acts as intermediary with Malkin and overseer of the GM. Hopefully the GM makes the day to day personnel decisions. But we'll see.

If we do hire him since he’s still under contract with the Leafs, I believe he won’t be allowed to be involved in the draft process or at the draft, but I could be wrong.

You should take a look at the roster he created instead of blaming him for what the players aren't doing. Shanahan cant control the pressure that the players feel playing in the Toronto market. Brad Marchand's post game after game 7 will help you there. Toronto was choking way before Shanahan was POHO. Shanahan would be an excellent hire.

I'm all for people learning and changing, but honestly...That happens so incredibly rarely. Honestly...Name a GM over the past 50 years that significantly changed their style of GMing and went from a failure to a success. I can't think of one.

And us Islander fans have been so emotionally abused over the past 25 years...Why do we have to hire a guy right out of the gate who has never been good and our entire chance of winning a Cup under his watch is us praying he learned from his previous blunders? I mean maybe Garth Snow or Mike Milbury would make great GMs right now. If you're willing to give free-wheeling Marc Bergevin another chance, why not Milbury or Snow? After all I'd argue Snow did a better job than Bergevin when you take into account the budgets, colleagues, and overall resources each had to work with.

Sure...Darche might fail. What he is right now is an unknown, but...Bergevin is a "known," and his "known" is pretty terrible. I'll absolutely take my chances on what's behind door #2 if I know what's behind door #1 is a pile of shit.

Don Waddell did a pretty good job with Carolina following being GM of Atlanta. McPhee did a pretty good job with Vegas.

Look I don't want my viewpoint mistaken here. I would rather Darche as GM over Bergevin. I also would not mind a Shanny as president and Darche as GM.

I understand that when you go and hire a first timer you can grab a Nill or Zito. It should also be noted though that Zito came from a random organization in Columbus with zero history of winning.

I have not really been given a reason to distrust ownership. I think they are doing their due diligence and taking their time with the process.

I think Shanahan was there for Nylander, was hired in April 2014. That said he prob didn’t have much of a say in the pick and it was close to a no brainer at that spot, was either him or Ehlers if they wanted a wing and both have worked out.

Your original knock on Shanahan was that the Leafs can’t win a playoff round, which is true. Now, if you want to sit there and claim that the roster isn’t good enough rather than blame the PLAYERS (that disappear come said playoff time) then I don’t know what to tell you. It’s not the roster, it’s the mindset. They make the playoffs every single year, something we don’t do.

Built out the front office in TO, oversaw a full-scale rebuild that yielded multiple stars and has had them in the dance year after year. His resume isn't perfect, but it's miles better than any of the other candidates out there.

The absolute issue with the Shanaplan and bringing in Tavares was he broke their salary structure for a player they didn’t really need. So it wasn’t just $11M for a redundant forward, it was then they had to pay AM more than he was probably worth because he had to get more than 91. Which also impacted the costs of MM and Nylander.

So they ended up with 11M + 3-4M overpay allocated in an F group. They’d have been better off with 3 of the Fs at a lower structure and allocating 91’s $ + the amount they overpaid (~14-15M) into D / G.

That was all on Shanahan. Sold lots of MLSE merch and tickets but was never going to win in the POs.

So agreed that it isn't only the taxes, but it's not like it's Bill Zito and "Chris Zito" and nobody else, like with the Isles.
