Question: Why is this deliberate approach to filling these roles so "embarrassing" and a "shitshow" exactly? There are currently no other GM/POHO vacancies in the League. The only other one was LA and they hired Holland. What's the rush? I'm glad they're doing their diligence by interviewing a number of people instead of rushing the decision.
First, we have to believe the "supposedly". Second, we don't know what input/direction he was getting from MLSE - maybe they didn't want to trade Marner, or maybe it wasn't an even value "now player" trade like the Rantanen deal would've been? In any event, I suspect if Marner walks away "for nothing", it will be like when a player walks away from the NYR - they'll just immediately use the cap space and sign someone else who wants to play for their childhood team.Shanahan is a political CYA operative at MLSE. Don’t trust him to let a GM do his job. Supposedly vetoed a Marner trade before his NMC kicked in.
Hard, hard pass if I’m NYI.
Even harder for an owner to see that as a flaw, especially one who wants to be as hands off as possible. If Shanahan wants the job it's his I imagine, and I don't think it'll take 3 interviews.Of all the names out there, Shannahan is probably the best of the bunch. Plus, he'd almost certainly build out a front office under him (including a GM like Darche) like he did in Toronto. It's a dramatic need for the Isles, who have an embarrassingly miniscule front office thanks to Lou. They don't just need talent on the ice and in the prospect pool, they need it in the front office.
You can point out the obvious flaws to Shanny. His time in Toronto hasn't been without issues, but its hard to consider a team that's been to the playoffs for 9 straight years and can get 100-110 points every season a failure, too.
I can understand the hesitation on Bergevin (this is ignoring the fact that first time GM's are not nearly perfect either). But why are so many of you so insanely pumped about Darche? He's not making final decisions over there in Tampa and aside from vague reports we don't actually know how big of a role he plays.
Yes I would rather Darche ahead of Bergevin. That being said, I think anything can work if people are willing to learn from their mistakes.
What was the other Marner trade? Only knew about the one for Rantanen.Shanahan is a political CYA operative at MLSE. Don’t trust him to let a GM do his job. Supposedly vetoed a Marner trade before his NMC kicked in.

It's because of the projected indecision and radical ways (Like having 2 G.M.'s) that have been reported....
Now if you guys wanna kill the messenger (Reporters Like Staple) Fine, what if everything they have said it s true?
Then it shows that our ownership in not sure what to do...
Now if the reporters are full of $hit, then the fanbase has been misdirected....
I lean towards the Ownership not know what to do side....
That's why it looks like a shitshow...
It is possible they were waiting for the Shanaplan to fail and had him targeted all along....?
Maybe so.
I think Shanahan would be a really good hire.
Shanahan quote from his wiki that includes Collins mention:
Legit why?
Can you name what he's specifically has done for the Leafs that would make you believe this?
He fired Lou. Surely that should be enough for you.![]()
That's what Darche is for.Has Shanahan built a team through the draft and under the radar transactions? Because he would no longer have the ability to snap his fingers and land significant free agents.
You should take a look at the roster he created instead of blaming him for what the players aren't doing. Shanahan cant control the pressure that the players feel playing in the Toronto market. Brad Marchand's post game after game 7 will help you there. Toronto was choking way before Shanahan was POHO. Shanahan would be an excellent hire.Absolutely not Shanahan. He can't even get out of the second round with a Marner Nylander , Tavares, Matthews.
Hard pass
I mean sure, but he just had a pretty good year again with Washington. Not saying Bergevin is amazing or anything but that LA year is the outlier in his careerBTW..in case you are wondering...why PLD signed with LA. and was an absolute disaster.
Bergy was trying to get PLD for the Habs from day one. He finally got him as an assistant GM with LA. That went a bad as it possibly get.
IMO, the suits let Shanny do whatever he wanted, the two telcos exerted no pressure beyond keeping the green rolling in.First, we have to believe the "supposedly". Second, we don't know what input/direction he was getting from MLSE - maybe they didn't want to trade Marner, or maybe it wasn't an even value "now player" trade like the Rantanen deal would've been? And what are the alternatives? Would you prefer Bergevin to Shanahan? I wouldn't. A political CYA operative is better than a loose cannon, no?
I (maybe incorrectly) remember reading about Kyper saying Dubas has a deal for Marner before the NMC and Shanny nixed it. Maybe I hallucinated it…What was the other Marner trade? Only knew about the one for Rantanen.
