He can be anything, even a Bergevin or a Lamoriello!
He's a clean slate, like a draft pick.![]()
What is the "this"? "Rumors" and "reports"? Friedman didn't sound like he knew a lot. There were a lot of "thinks" and "believes" and "rumors" in his comments, and the majority of his segment was devoted to discussing what a bad idea co-GMs would be, after opening by conceding it may have just been a crazy rumor.this is getting embarrassing
Some people just are enamored with the idea of being with a virgin.
Bergevin did some great trades for my Habs, and a few ugly ones too. If he's hired by the Isles, hopefully, he learned from his mistakes in Montreal and will not repeat them. Regarding his trades, I saw mentioned here by a Habs fan that Bergevin acquired Suzuki and Tomas Tatar in exchange for Pacioretty. Yes, he did, but only because the Vegas Knights were unwilling to part with Cody Glass, which Bergevin had been asking for along with Tatar. I can only imagine how much stronger Vegas would be today with Suzuki had they given Glass to Bergevin, but GMs make mistakes and we're grateful in Montreal for this Vegas blunder. The GM Search
If (and I say "if") we are to believe the reports of who has been interviewed and isnow being considered for GM/President, then to me the choice is so simple...
- Marc Bergevin - Without a hall of fame goaltender (who he didn't draft) carrying them to a finals appearance, his time with Montreal would've been an embarrssment of high profile trades that are exciting, but distract from results. He's Mike Milbury 2.0 the way he wields trades as if the more wild the trade the better his team would be. And perhaps the biggest eye-opener of why the Isles should avoid Bergevin is...Even the team he iis currently working for, the Kings, didn't even want him as GM. Nothing else should need to be said, but for some reason the Isles are still considering him.
- Jarmo Kekäläinen - Garth Snow had as many playoff series wins as this guy. He's a lesser GM that Lou. Seems like a nice guy so I'd root for him, but let the Sabres take a chance that he actually is somehow much better at his job now because...Why exactly? The entire NHL thought so little of him that, unlike Bergevin, he couldn't get any position on any NHL team since he was fired by Columbus. On what planet should we be the team to hire him to run everything? Not if we want to win.
- Brendan Shanahan - Things going swimmingly in Toronto eh (Canadien accent)? Dude hires Lou, Dubas, and Treveling, has multiple top 10 picks, and wins 2 series in a decade. Embarrassing. The Leafs might actually be talented enough to win a Cup, but are a bunch of absolute spineless jellyfish who have no leadership or grit. How this was never identified and solved in all this time is a joke. We love to watch the Leafs lose annually, but now imagine that was your favorite team. You'd be throwing Isles jerseys on the ice, and this is "Leafs Kingdom" under Shanahan. And this is the guy you want over here creating "Isles nation?" Uh...No.
- Mathieu Darche - Legit buzz about the guy being the next great GM. What does that mean...? Not much until he proves it. And that's a very important point...The other 3 names above have already proved something - That they aren't good enough. There's certainly a chance that Darche is given a chance and totally flops, but right now he's unknown with promise...And that is so much better than known ineptitude. Not only that, but Darche is the only one both fully employed by an NHL team and employed for a very well run franchise - And I think that matters a lot. He's also the guy that if hired I think you'd hear other NHL executives/fans/media buzz that "you got a good one," but if we hired any of the other 3 I think there's be a lot of snickering at us - If not outright laughter. Darche's resume is beyond worth giving a shot and he'd be the most exciting candidate of all being considered. And I am also fine if Darche is hired just as GM and they keep searching for a President later. We just need to get a GM in here very soon to be ready for the draft/offseason .
I'm fully open to other candidates, but since basically no others were reported other than possibly Scott White in Dallas (although I don't see how they could wait for the Stars to be eliminated at this point). Seems like this search is coming to an end, and probably our next President/GM has already been interviewed.
Now I hope/pray the Isles make the right choice. It's possible that no one they've interviewed is good enough to get us to a Cup, but I guarantee some of those they have interviewed never could. Take the guy with easily the best resume (who just needs a chance). Now that would be truly exciting.
people are too pumped about him, I agree, but there are a lot of people cosigning him.I can understand the hesitation on Bergevin (this is ignoring the fact that first time GM's are not nearly perfect either). But why are so many of you so insanely pumped about Darche? He's not making final decisions over there in Tampa and aside from vague reports we don't actually know how big of a role he plays.
Yes I would rather Darche ahead of Bergevin. That being said, I think anything can work if people are willing to learn from their mistakes.
When the alternative is a crack whore with HIV and hepatitis, I'll take the virgin, thanks.
Or Fenton, Howson, or Hextall. He can be anything, even a Bergevin or a Lamoriello!
There's a morality aspect to it, but it's really about leadership. In the context of where pro hockey is right now, those things intersect in a timely way. Do you want the people under your purview to handle things the right way, and not hide from the fact that they make mistakes? Cool, show it.I think what you're talking about is definitely different because it's more of a moral thing than a hockey one, you know? I don't have any issue with someone not endorsing a person for moral reasons.
Really? There's no in between?
You must've married your high school sweetheart![]()
Wasn't that The Great Bob Gainey?Along with doing a very mediocre job in Montreal Marc Bergevin:
-traded Ryan McDonagh for Scott Gomez
It was actually. Hard to believe that trade happened all the way back in 2009.Wasn't that The Great Bob Gainey?
They must not be that interested in bergevin or Darche if they are going after Shanny. It does not feel like they have found the person they want yet. I get the impression they thought there would be interest names and it really hasn’t materialized. Was a weird time to fire a GM in the sense there wasn’t a lot of big names available.I believe Shanahan leaves in New York. I could see this being a factor.
Error here....Ryan McDonagh for Scott Gomez was by Bob Gainey and PK Subban for Shea Weber was an amazing trade for the Habs!Along with doing a very mediocre job in Montreal Marc Bergevin:
-ran Markov out of town
-traded Ryan McDonagh for Scott Gomez
-traded Michael Sergachev for Jonathan Drouin
-traded PK Subban for Shea Weber
This is not the guy you want to bring in when your most valuable assets are a 25 year old defensemen and a 1st round pick that is expected to become a defensemen.
Who will we label as our "Core Four"?...Brandan Shanahan is gonna be the new President isn’t he. Smh
Do we even have a core one?Who will we label as our "Core Four"?...![]()
Seriously. I’d take a core 4 right now.Do we even have a core one?
