New York Islanders: Lamoriello Contract Not Renewed; John Collins Searching for Next GM

I'm not sad removing Holland from the process for whatever reasons he had / maybe they full stopped being interested when he laid out a short term plan and asked if he could hire his son at same time .

I'm really hoping to hear Rob Blakes name surface as a gm candidate , maybe butter up the title to poho/gm combo

tbh I have a bad feeling about bergevin. Draft history is mixed. The Sergachev-Drouin deal was bad. There's a lot of good in there (The Subban-Weber deal in retrospect, acquiring Suzuki).

He'd have to answer questions, in particular about drafting Mailloux. That's the one thing I just do not get. it was a totally unforced error.

Blake has a very, very cushy life - I doubt he swaps that for moving to LI. Absent a falling out with his friends (name every ex-King that lives in his town), I would be shocked he took a job outside the area.

There are thousands of executives that would kill to run an NHL hockey team. You really think that if an offer was presented to any of them they would say no it's the Islanders? I'll pass? Don't think so.
Only because there are only 32 of those jobs available.

yeah I'd imagine he's set up nicely in LA with no worries financially but if he's looking to continue his career in management he'll have to move eventually .

Meh...

Much like with Wang here, this team was 1000% DOA with Lou in charge. I'll take my chances with and up and coming executive you've never heard of before.

That said this is why I wanted Lou fired years ago. He GMed took over the front office, hired zero help, and GM'ed this team into a mess of a roster where it's going to take the next President/GM years to get things right. Things wouldn't be this bad if Lou was fired 2-3 years ago.

Anyway whomever is hired is going to fill out a proper front office so they'll be more of a committee to discuss moves as opposed to an inept dictator doing whatever he wants. Not all hires will be perfect and more firings/hirings will need to be made, but things will be better as time goes on.

This is a marathon - Not a sprint. Present we're trying to build the "UBS arena" of rosters. Sucked to have to wait years for it, but got more exciting the more it was built. Same thing here.

Malkin has proved himself to be a very good and competent owner since he took control of the team. He/Collins may not get this initial hire right, but would've been easier for him to keep Lou. He didn't. Took guts and ambition to make things better. And he's proven that he will spare no expense to make this team better on/off the ice, so at minimum that is going to attract some quality talent.

May not be perfect, but there was zero hope before. Now there is some. How much there is will be determined in the coming days...
The desire for a Garth Snow has come full circle.

I’d rather gamble on Darche and lose than give the keys to Bergevin.

In fairness, one guy has to build an entire front office, scouting department, build up Bridgeport, make savvy trades, get out from cap hell, convince FA's to sign here, all the while doing at least a retool if not a rebuild.

The other just needs to ride around in a funny outfit and wave to people.
