New York Islanders: Lamoriello Contract Not Renewed; John Collins Searching for Next GM

I was wondering why Bergevin specifically is getting so much attention with the LAK news, then realized that’s the team with which he’s currently employed - in case anyone else was confused

Not super embarrassing as he's already under contract by that team.

No reason to move 3,000 miles and start from scratch with a worse team when the same job is waiting for you at home.

And believe me...

I desperately want Bergevin to stay employed by that (far away) team.

However in LA Luc Robitaille is the Kings President and is seemingly going nowhere. And if you believe rumors that's the same position Bergevin would be offered with the Isles.

At the same time Bergevin's title with the Kings is "Senior Advisor to the GM," which is basically like then you see "Executive Producer" on a TV show.

So there would very much be a reason for Bergevin to pack up and move across the country where he would have a ton more responsibility and power...Not to mention a much higher paycheck.

Even if Bergevin got the GM job with the Kings, the President job might be more alluring to him (unless the Kings make him the "President in waiting" when Robitaille goes in a few years).

Still praying Bergevin stays far away from the Isles in any capacity. Just look at what fans in Montreal and LA feel about him. Very similar to how most of us feel about Lou.

Bring me the best candidate for the job and I'll judge it case by case. Some 68 year olds only have another 1-2 years left of work in them. Some could work another decade.

I'd really like to hire the best candidate for the job...Who could be on the job for a decade plus.

If we have to rehire someone else in another 3-4 years I'd argue that isn't the best person for the job.
That's downright Wang-ian of you! :sarcasm:

Ha.

I like this line... "There's no good movie that's too long, and no bad movie that's too short."

Guys like Bill Torrey, Al Arbour, and Barry Trotz should be getting 10-year+ contracts. Instead the Isles give them out to guys like Yashin, DiPietro, and Snow.

If we get great people in as President/GM, I'd be fine giving them a long-term deal no different than I would signing Connor McDavid to one.

So there you go - Find us the Connor McDavid of GMs and we'll be all set.

Just wait until you see his expressionless mug representing the Isles at the draft lottery tonight.
Karma. They're going to send Scott Gomez. He's wearing this jersey:

Does it really matter if Lou goes to the Isles offices every day? I'm guessing the Malkin/Collins activity is happening someplace else. So let Lou sit in his office with the Penske file all day.

Gorton still has that Rangers stink on him. It never goes away.
I would take him and offer him a lot. I would be very surprised if he left MTL though. High profile job. Got his buddy at GM. They are having success. Maybe he would prefer to be pres then EVP…
