New York Islanders: Lamoriello Contract Not Renewed; John Collins Searching for Next GM

No idea about her. Anyone? She's totally off the radar based on what any credible reporter suggested so this is surprising.

I hope at absolute minimum Madigan is qualified to be an NHL GM. That or this is a PR move to get Madigan/a woman get good press for that movement going forward.

See this is a scenario where I would want Holland above her.

Someone that knows everyone in the hockey world is a resource.

I believe the comment that Collins is throwing out a wide net. I think we should not be surprised if the eventual choice is kind of out of left field.

Having said that, it could also be an unsurprising choice like Darche or Campbell.

To me, if the Isles are going to hire someone new, Darren Yorke makes more sense than Kate Madigan. He's been in the league for far longer and has helped to build a scouting juggernaut in Carolina. Sometimes, if you hire someone that's too green, you risk a John Chayka.

I know it’s maybe unfair but wouldn’t be thrilled with getting somebody from the Devils organization. Am not a fan of the retreads either. Hopefully a younger assistant from a consistently successful organization preferably with a background in player development. Let the president or whatever title be a more experienced head

And for those interested:

Obviously very intelligent and has a good amount of NHL organizational experience. But player and game knowledge an unknown, at least from the video ( other than studying the Pens when she was younger). That said, I'd give her consideration.

Here are some names. I forgot about Bergervan and Jarmo.

Jarmo is interesting. The only thing scares me about Jarmo is he always made trades and sometimes to soon in my opinion. I respect always trying to improve the team but you need a balance and continuity.

Darche and Martin are 2 guys that really intrigue me.

And for those interested:

A female GM would certainly give us a lot of media attention. Whether that is what we want or not is another question entirely. But it would be the first time ever, no? Pretty historic. And uh, given recent times, likely controversial.

Personally I really dont care as long as the GM is good at their job.

If you surround yourself with the right people then those unknowns can be overcome for sure. It's all about assembling the right team.

So far … in hockey, data people haven’t been successful running a franchise.

The role and responsibilities of the ‘general manager’ needs to change or the data people need to support the traditional ‘general manager’ role (And its not bc of the old boys club either).

Every GM will tell you that being the GM is a lot more than picks, trades, etc. It’s a TON of people and life stuff of 50-something people.

Jarmo is a scout - the Isles need that badly. As a GM, he’s terrible.

if I’m Collins I’m so reluctant to go with anyone new to the GM thing as almost every recent hire league wide who fits that bill has been a total disaster. SEA SJ MIN NYR it’s truly amazing. Even Yzerman now seems like a product of what was just a good farm system when he got there. As for Madigan, I’m gonna be a jerk here lol. I was once given some great advice by a friend that said when a woman is under the age of 50 stay the hell away from her if she’s wearing glasses because a woman who truly gives two crapolas about her appearance career and is driven at that age is gonna wear contacts 90% of the time barring cases of intolerance etc. I’m done there, but seriously I’d not want to go with a glass ceiling hire here. I also think this GM job requires someone who is a bit of a jerk or hardass too because when it comes to competing with NYR for UFAs you’re gonna lose 8 out of 10 times. I think the extra aggressive personality ala what we saw Stearns do this year to make sure he got Soto is a big thing when you’re the second fiddle in a city

Agree here. There are plenty of candidates and would rather not land on someone that has Devils, Leafs or Providence ties. Been there, done that. And keep Chiarelli out of the interview process.

.

If it keeps Chiarelli, Bergevin, Francis, or Kekäläinen miles away from this team, they can choose someone from Alpha Centauri.
