Speculation: LAK GM Search

I dont think he has, there's been no rumblings of Darche or Janko (who should have been first 2 calls) or anyone else besides Holland outside organization, think his focus is veteran gm because he think they are close and that's best route. I disagree with that thought process, but doesn't matter what I think, think all of us kinda knew. Who knows maybe he throws us for a loop and it's Yannetti..😉
I think Luc's problem is he wants to win, but he wants it to look like he had a big part in it.. hiring an outside guy makes it look like his Blake here was nepo and due to his limitations as an executive. Yanetti sort of works based on that assumption (since he been under Luc all these years). Darche and Janko do not. Im hoping to be surprised, but i think the odds are very low.

So remind me, why did Holland and Edmonton part ways after going to the Stanley Cup final?
Edmonton fan here:

Holland was horrible. He signed Darnell Nurse to a ridiculous, unmovable contract, he took on Duncan Keith Salary dump (and paid to do it), he emptied the prospect cupboards, and didn’t get a starting goalie in his 5 years here. He also did not hire any of the current coaching staff. The one he hired he fired. Woodcroft was a Chiarelli hire that he was willing to let walk.

He was also told by upper executives to re-sign Broberg and Holloway in around December, he failed to do that. He forgot to qualify a prospect who then became a free agent. He also failed to address the team around McDavid and Draisaitl until the last season. Every year prior- the bottom 6 during Chiarelli’s disastrous tenure had a higher GF%. Holland also had the worst team in the league from a GF% when 97/29 were not on the ice for 3/5 years.

The signing of Hyman and the trade for Ekholm were analytics based trades- that his son was the driver behind. Hyman, in particular, was pushed hard by Holland jr. He also signed Jack Campbell for 5 years at 5M/per. Kassian he gave a large contract to (which he had to trade away by adding more draft capital).

The oilers best players were from the drafts under Chiarelli. If he is hired, be prepared for poor drafting (he’ll bring on Tyler Wright), giving away draft capital like candy, over payments on contracts, getting fleeced on trades. There is a reason he was put out to pasture in Detroit and Edmonton had no interest in re-signing him. Oh- you will hear Detroit references in every interview

This is actually encouraging, sounds like he would be an improvement over Blake based on the comments you'll find around here. Thank you.

So does anyone really believe that Luc has done an extensive search for a GM? At least when Terry Murray was fired, DL said the list of potential coaches was extremely short.
I dont think it matters how extensive of a search Luc does, would he recognise a good Gm anyway?

So much this. Ken Holland won’t get as much flak as Chia but he was gifted a 22 year old Mcdavid and a 23 year old Draisaitl , with a draft cupboard of Bouchard, Kesselring, Puljujarvi, and a few others. He ran out several years of unbelievably poor rosters. He made 2 good moves, acquiring Ekholm and signing Hyman. He still signed Nurse to that ridiculous contract. He ran out a top pair of Nurse-Barrie for a few years even when it was clear neither were top pair defensemen. Never invested in a real goalie. Adam Larsson left 4 years ago and never properly replaced him on the 2nd pair. Klefbom unfortunately had his career cut short which left a gaping hole that he didn’t replace for several years until he got Ekholm. Didn’t sign Broberg and Holloway last year even though everyone was urging him to. Cap space to useless players like Chiasson and Kassian while bridging important players. He’s a major reason that 97 and 29 are approaching 30 with nothing to show for it in terms of team success. Good luck.

Woodcroft honestly got the short end of the stick, he was not a bad coach

So cool we get to hear from all the oilers fans today. What a treat.

Yes. We all know he sucks. Thanks for stopping by.

Leave it to this ownership group to go find a guy even worse than Blake to replace him. Holland is a joke. Had McJesus and Draisaitl to build around but made pretty much every wrong move a GM can make. His moves were arguably worse than Blake's. This is a step backward if anything. I might have to make the boycott permanent and just give up. I am too old to wait another 10 years for these guys to figure it out. Far beyond disappointing that this is the best "Talent" they can find for one of the best markets in hockey.

Literally anyone on this board could have done a better job than Holland in Edmonton. Even you Sol.
How the f*** does this guy get another NHL GM job after that? I need to know the process that ends with the result of Ken Holland being the best candidate. Was the only other candidate Chuck Fletcher?

I mean can he at least bring Chiarelli and Milbury with him? If we're going for sheer punishment of Kings fans for whatever reason, might as well go all out instead of edging us.

Whatever it is we did hockey gods we are sorry

Except for 2012 and 2014 I wont' apologize for that and if this is our penance f*** it

Holland hasnt done shit since he had access to a blank check and unlimited funds in a non-cap world AND ALSO had an uncontested European scouting apparatus fueling that machine. He was then gifted two of the best players in hockey history and led them nowhere. Hard for me to get excited simply because it’s “not Bergy.” Add in that he was Luc’s GM back in DET and this just feels like Blake hiring McLellan. Our 'exhaustive' search. Brilliant.

If it wasn't clear that Luc was pulling all the strings before hopefully it's clear as day now. Blake left the loaded gun on the table and left the room.
