Speculation: LAK GM Search

For me it was a tell that DL was a tactician and a student of how successful franchises operate. He studied NFL franchises that were constantly winning Superb Owls and realized a lot of it comes down to winning culture and identity. Also if I remember correctly, he was trying to get inside the mind of Frolov to see what made him tick, so he read the slog that is War and Peace. I would've gone for the Brothers Karamozov myself but whatevs.

DL was obsessed with Bill Walsh and the Niners, trying to figure out how to stay on top. I think that pursuit drove him mad, and hurt the team in the end. Reckless trades, stuck in the past mentality and pure stuborness refusing to admit the league was changing did him in. He's still searching for what it takes to stay on top.

Friedman said on this morning's 32 Thoughts pod that Holland is the name he's hearing if the Kings hire a person outside the organization. When was the last time he actually did anything to prove he might be perceived as a competent GM? Before there was a salary cap? What a joke this franchise is.
Was Holland the one that signed the Nurse contract?

Good lord, I'd rather have Bergevin than Holland. I might be crazy though.

Yes.

His team won 6 playoff rounds in the last 3 years he was there - isn't that what we are judging Blake on??

There's lots to judge Blake on.
Impulsive trades like the Pearson rage trade & dumping Faber when he wasn't ready to turn pro

Bad contracts, Cal, Kovalchuk, PL. The second 2 weren't bad contracts until Todd banished them to the 4th line

Sitting on assets like Toffoli & getting a worse return then if he dumped them the summer before.

Drafting & development, there was a break somewhere. Doesn't matter now.

Drafting injury prone players thinking that injuries are normal & they'll heal, unless it's an injury caused by a chronic issue like Turcotte skating with his head down. Vilardi too.

That hair cut

The epic saga of the Kuemper trade to the reacquisition of Kuemper. With Provorov's retained 2 million, Kuemper was effectively 7 mill this year!

Chrome helmets, might have been Luc.

& Not winning a playoff round his entire tenure making all of his BS & trades pointless.

ooof

another nepo hire
They all are, Luc isn’t going to get a new staff under Holland or anyone else.

IDK, I still think it’s BurgerBin. I think this story is being floated so that Luc appears to be looking at external candidates etc.

I’d feel better about Holland if he could revamp the front office and have a new coach. But it doesn’t look like Luc is willing to do that.

I did talk about that and if anybody was paying attention there was an important detail included in that conversation that I wasn't even going to include but that I think might highlight some of you malcontents arguments but of course nobody will notice it or even bother to try and interpret it I'll just he accused of speaking in riddles again.

So... when is a door not a door.

Thank you that's the nicest thing anyone's ever said about me here

And also good movie punctuated by great ending that contextualizes everything before it making the sum great.

If somebody didn't figure out The Sixth Sense in the first 5 minutes, I don't know if their opinion really matters.

And The Usual Suspects was a good ending wrapped around a mediocre movie.

I feel the problem with judging Holland's GM abilities is after Detroit, he worked for a very "strong-minded" owner in Edmonton so who knows what his actual thoughts are?

On the other hand, the fact that they want to hire a former "yes man" makes me feel like this will just be another Blake.

People who love Mulholland Drive just live on a different planet.

Again, his post-cap body of work, with the resources available, leaves a lot to be desired. But at least it's someone from outside the org.

At this point, just run it back one more year until Kopitar retires. See if Drew heals up and rebounds, and see if that and the increased cap make him easy to move next off-season. Let bargain bin or Emerson or Seeley be interim GMs with the caveat they can’t do anything major.

It gives what some like to say, historic 105 point team, one more kick at the cat, allows the young guys, especially Byfield, to see what we actually have, then we can decide if it’s getting torn right down or if we actually have something to work with.

There is just no way a new GM is allowed to rebuild with 11 and 8 here. In order to get the job, their mandate might be to actually supplement this core, which scares me.

One year from now, we may be able to shed a ton of cap, and go after McDonald’sJesus or somebody really good if the youngsters are taking that next step or trade off the whole lot and start fresh.

We are suffering Kings fans, what’s another few years.
