Seems wild to sign that if you're Turcotte... Like do you really have absolutely no confidence in yourself to improve?

Literally a league minimum deal for the next 3 years. If he improves even slightly, he's worth more then that.

It's not talent but rather injuries with Turcotte. Given that, I think the 3 year term and it all being one-way is why he agreed to it, because even if he either stinks in the NHL or gets a career-ending injury, he'll still make all of that in the AHL or on LTIR.

The average person making 100K per year would need to work for 23ish years to make what he will accumulate in 3 years.

Good deal for a kid who may be out of the show in 4 years.

Isn’t it a two-way contract, though? He’s not getting paid 3/4 of a million if he’s playing in the minors.

Unfortunate what he's gone through battling injuries. I'd label him a bust but not under said circumstances. I think majority of Kings fans hope he gets it all (or even half) together, for his own sake. He seems to be a good kid.

Yea if it's a 1-way I completely get it. He's had a lot of injuries, great way to secure yourself $2m if you have a career ender. And if he does improve and become a full time NHLer he can still cash in later

Hopefully he didn't sprain his wrist signing the deal.

In all seriousness - likeable kid. Just so many health issues since getting drafted.

He clearly has the skill and is an NHL-caliber player, but he just obviously needs to stay healthy. It will be tough because his brand of hockey has always risked injury. He is a similar player to Mike Richards and is on the same health trajectory without the stats and glory. His injuries have made him far more cautious and less physical as well. He absolutely will get a long look and big opportunity this year now that PLD is out of the way and there are plenty of spots on the roster.

Well, he is unlikely to play in the NHL so he's smart to sign that contract and get paid that in the AHL. (though i could be wrong and he still has an AHL salary?)
He has 32 NHL games played and just got 20 at the end of last season. He is projected to be on the opening day lineup if he isn't injured again. He's had concussion issues that have derailed his career so far, but when he is healthy he looks like an NHL Top9 forward.

Also, the contract is a two-way deal for next season and a 1-way deal for the last two years.

Quite the opposite. Blake has repeated numerous times this offseason he expects Turcotte, Thomas and Clarke to be on the team this coming year. Turcotte looked good his last call up.

What AT did certainly is not what a young once promising. yet unaccomplished prospect should do.

Change to a new team, fresh start, new eyes on you and do a 1 year prove it deal. Example: Ryan Poeling, very underrated bottom 6 C with upward trajectory. rewarded w/ a 2 year deal for about 3m

With his concussion issues though, this at least guarantees some coin in case the worst happens and he has to retire early.
