Because he's the only one besides Carter willing to stand in front of the net.

Lucic/Pearson/VL all like standing in front of the net. Why is Brown on the PP again? Didn't we sit through a year of Brown/Stoll/Williams on the PP to figure out why Brown doesn't need to be out there?

Brown has a lower shooting % then StoneHands Lewis. Why is he on the ice when the team is trying to score?

I mean **** it... Lewis should be on the PP over Brown. He converts a higher % of shots.

Not entirely joking here.

Lewis ahead of Brown measured with a micrometer. I'm surprised Brown wasn't changing diapers and powdering bottoms on the bench between shifts.

What an embarassing organization. I know we joke about the LOLOLOilers a lot, but seriously, what a ****ing clown show.

Can you imagine what kind of haul Lombardi could get from the Oilers were he to trade them Voynov... I mean if the incident/hospital/charges/conviction/self-deportation thing didn't happen.

Being tied or in the general vicinity of someone known livelong among fans as Stone-Hands is bad enough.

It's probably like that Goalie save % vs number of shots... the save % usually goes up with the more shots... maybe if Lewis shot more he'd pass Brown... wish we had an old math major around to crunch the numbers...

Amen. I was having flashbacks the whole third period.

And yeah, look at our odds going in to tonight, Edmonton may break the record:

 thanks for the inspiration! It just 'feels' better than making a whiny post before the game like I usually would, superstitious goober that I am. Will probably have to adjust some of the categories sometime soon too.

Haha I missed that. I don't remember the negative, but that's great. At the next Kings Business of Hockey meeting you should bring this chart in and ask how we're addressing each item to improve the club.

Brown has the highest number of shots on the team.
But he's not playing bad overall and that is why he's on the PP.

The drunk couple didn't fall down the stairs, but we were all wondering. Kings 14pts ahead of Arizona. Re-establish their 4pt lead over Anaheim.

To add to the bad mojo... The last time Edmonton allowed less than 2 goals was Feb. 2nd.

And every offseason, people talk about whether they'll make the playoffs... Even with McDavid, they are an absolute dumpster fire.

This offseason I was guilty. With Chiarelli and McLellan I felt they could be a dark horse team (more of a spoiler than anything else). Well, they still suck and arguably look worse.

And damn, that presser was FANTASTIC. Straight ****ing truth which is rare.

Everyone has to watch that clip. Best thing I've watched this year. I'm surprised he didn't roll up his sleeves before that speech.

Aside from the obvious that they don't have good enough D and good enough goal tending, they certainly don't have a lockerroom that cares enough anyway.

Even at their worst I never thought Calgary or Arizona or some of the other dumper teams completely phoned it in every night. Look at Buffalo too. They play hard every game. The Oilers seem to just play like it's a pick up game.

Maybe I just think you should earn your PP time by proving you can bury a shot in the net?

The real test is would there be a significant drop in play running Lucic/Kopitar/Clifford over Lucic/Kopitar/Brown? I don't think it'd be much of a difference.

Brown probably isn't playing bad for Brown... but he's playing like **** for a 1st line wing. 11 goal pace. :shakehead

Shooting % (forwards worse then Brown)
Brown 4.9%
Mersch 4.3%
Shore 4.2%
Clifford 2.4%
Nolan 0.0%

What do the guys on this list have in common?

Edit: I get that people want to believe in the captain, but it's just getting really bad at this point.

All the forwards that are available that should be on the PP have been on the PP. Lucic has 1G and 5A on the PP this year. Gaborik has 1G and 3A on the PP this year. That's barely more than Brown, for either guy, and Gaborik is hurt. Lecavalier has 4 PPG for the Kings, which is more than Kopitar and Carter, who have 3 each, and they've played 35-ish more games for the Kings than Lacavalier has. Pearson has 2G and 1A on the PP this year, same as Brown.

Why are we complaining about Brown on the PP? There's no great option.

No one has produced consistently on the powerplay. Which is all the more surprising the Kings have such a highly ranked one. lol

Well, the Kings are clearly getting a lot of powerplays...

Seriously tho, what is the modern day record for the least PP opportunities since the lockout? Can't be really a lot less then current Kings...

There are three teams with fewer PP opportunities than us this year. We're near the bottom of the barrel, but it's not historic or anything. I just see that as conflicting with our league-leading-by-several-percent possession and the fact that we're shorthanded more than anyone but Winnipeg.

I'm stoked our best players are being our best players in spite of injuries.

Quick is having his best regular season since 2012 and has been mostly between .920 and .926 despite a low shots-against per game. But visibly, he's been spectacular, and has saved our hide at the end of that road trip.

Doughty's icetime is lol and well-documented above but he's helped the PP out bigtime in addition to carrying the suddenly-shoddy defensive personnel. HE's on a 54-point pace while carrying a +15, playing 28:20/game, leading the league's d-men with a 58.9 CF%, and despite leading the best possession team in the league, carries a 5.9% CF rel, 6th in the league amongst d-men who have played any significant amount of games.

Kopitar is the heart of the offense especially with the corpse of Jeff Carter slowly being reanimated and Tyler Toffoli wearing down. He's 4th in the league in icetime amongst forwards/game at 20:46, at 57.9% CF% which is good for 7th in the league amongst forwards, and is at a 73 point pace for the season, but has scored 49 points in 48 games since Nov. 1st, and 24 in 21 since the new year.

Really, the biggest saving grace for our guys is the fact they had long off-seasons to rest and train for the first time in years. So although Drew is putting up huge minutes, at least he had recovery time in the offseason.

I was unable to watch as NHL gamecentre blocks out flames and oilers games for me. So this week sucks.

Sounds like it was a typical LA vs Back up game except we were able to squeek out a win.

Anything big or memorable happen?

I had been noticing the same thing, so I did a comparison of penalties drawn with relation to possession. I took the top 5 and bottom 5 teams in ES penalties drawn and averaged their CF% rank. This season the average CF% rank for the teams with the fewest drawn penalties is 10.2, meanwhile the average CF% rank for the top penalty drawing teams is 18.4. If you do the same thing for every season this decade the opposite occurs, the top penalty drawing teams have substantially higher possession numbers. Just thought it was an interesting anomaly.
