Well, I guess that decides it. Mods, can we just sticky this article on the front page? Seems like that's were it belongs.

Laine is getting more hype than McDavid.
In fact he's probably the most ridiculously overhyped player in NHL history, it's definitely the case on HF, AINEC.

I would say if he is leading the NHL in goals at the halfway mark of the season. Game 41 which is only another 12 games to go. I don't think any 18 year old playing in the NHL in his rookle year, first time in NA in the same circumstances would be considered as overhyped. It would be one of the most historical accomplishments we have seen in the history of the NHL.

I dont get why this is thread worthy.

First of all, it's way too early to make predictions like this after all of 25 games. He's had a great start, but that doesn't mean anything in comparison to there entire future careers.

Secondly, it really should not be considered a surprise at all if this does happen. Matthews was the right choice for the Leafs at #1, but we know he wasn't the unanimous #1 pick and a lot of scouts had Laine over Matthews. It was very close between the two before the draft and after the draft. Laine turning out better should not be a surprise at all, and certainly not worthy of the daily thread that keeps coming up about the subject.

Not familiar with Lawless, what are his credentials that make his opinion any more valid than any other fat, bald guy?

Can we rename National Hockey League talk "Laine Talk" and just be done with this

Don't the jets have their own sub board on here?

Completely agree. They're both looking like they'll be superstars in the league for the next decade. I'm a Leaf fan, but have no problem accepting Laine is most likely going to be a better goal scorer most years and possibly put up more points than him in a bunch of years as well.

In the end, it was always about picking the elite center over the elite winger for me because it's so much more important for team success. It seems to be a mandatory requirement for cup winning teams now. The Crosby-Ovechkin comparison only reinforces this thought process.

I agree with this, but I think the argument that Laine will never win a cup because he is like ovechkin needs to die because it is quite frankly moronic. Too many people say "laine will score more goals but Matthews will win more cups." Like that's not how it works at all lol. Jets already have a young elite center so Laine has just as good of a chance at winning cups as Matthews.

Not saying you specifically were arguing this btw, the Crosby vs ovi comparisons just reminded me of that.

Read the article if you want, but we are not having another discussion about this.
