Is HF running on a mandatory 5 threads per day about Laine right now? Like if it hits 3pm EST and there has only been one a bot just pops out 3 just to be safe.

Laine's already the top sniper in the league (yes better than Ovi), of course he'll be better than Matthews.

Can't see Winnipeg being anything less than a cup contender starting next season, maybe even this season.

You really can't go wrong with either of them. Laine has shown to be a special player and keeps getting better, while Matthews' potential is through the roof.

Ehh, why even play for the Stanley cup. Just give it to them.

Hmm local Winnipeg TSN reporter writing a story about a Winnipeg player that compares him favourably to another team's player? Say it isn't so!

In case it isn't obvious to everyone, this is a clickbait headline. The article isn't nearly that decisive. and Lawless makes a couple interesting points.

Most relevant section BTW:

If you accept as an article of faith that centres are intrinsically more valuable than wingers, stop reading. You will be steadfast in your belief that Matthews is destined to have a bigger career impact than Laine.

Who cares?

Look at Sid and Ovi. Does anyone really feel like time arguing between the two was at all worthwhile. As someone who spent plenty of time doing it, I feel bad that I couldn't just appreciate two legends in their prime.

I read the entire article. I am sure there will be many discussions to follow, but Lawless explains his position rather well.

I think this may be the first thread I put on ignore, because there is zero chance anyone who even glances in here will not contract aids.

There hasn't been an elite young goal scorer since stamkos so everyone is going crazy.

Im pretty confident that it will be a common consensus within few years that laine was the BPA in this draft.
He is still having adjustment period going on him, he is just slowly starting to learn small rink game.. and still scoring like crazy.
Everybody is saying that he will cool down, but i think he is just slowly starting to heat up..

Laines ceiling is not sky high, it is in another universe

Laine is getting more hype than McDavid.
In fact he's probably the most ridiculously overhyped player in NHL history, it's definitely the case on HF, AINEC.

It certainly is possible. But Matthews off puck play is really under-rated. He knows how to use his body, good at puck battles/positioning and an above average back checker.

We aren't even halfway through the season and I'm already tired of Laine.

The Laine homers will do that. They'll tell you it's all justified though, since everyone's tried to shove Matthews down your throat first.

Completely agree. They're both looking like they'll be superstars in the league for the next decade. I'm a Leaf fan, but have no problem accepting Laine is most likely going to be a better goal scorer most years and possibly put up more points than him in a bunch of years as well.

In the end, it was always about picking the elite center over the elite winger for me because it's so much more important for team success. It seems to be a mandatory requirement for cup winning teams now. The Crosby-Ovechkin comparison only reinforces this thought process.

The only question is will WPG become the first team two win two Stanley Cups in one season? With Laine, anything's possible.

I'd still favor Matthews to be the better player in the long-run. Laine will likely be a bit better offensively though.

Gary Lolawless is pretty terrible btw.
