Love how Habs having figured out yet that its so obvious they gonna feed Laine on the PP these days. Laine is so close to the board too. They force that option on every PP, instead of going with what is there to take. They don't use the space of the man advantage.

I want to like you Laine, epic shot, you are god awful at 5v5. He is just so bad at getting puck deep.

I decided to make this a more in depth 1 v 1 tracking than just goals, assists and points, and instead do a GAS comparison (Goals, Assists, Shots). I will update in OP after each game but here is GAS after game 1 so that it becomes clear how the 1 v 1 is tracked and how and where the results are presented:

GASH+/- stats (Goals, Assists, Shots, Hits, +/-) 1 v 1 after game 1:
Goals: Ovi 2 Laine 0 -> Ovi +1
Assists: Ovi 1 Laine 1 -> Ovi +1 Laine +1
Shots: Ovi 4 Laine 5 -> Laine +1
Hits: Ovi 7 Laine 3 -> Ovi +1
+/-: Ovi +2 Laine -2 -> Ovi +1

TOTAL GASH+/- after game 1:
Ovechkin +4
Laine +2

GASH+/- = +1 for a category win or tie in the categories of Goals, Assists, Shots, Hits and +/-.

Very even after game 1!

I mean I am a huge Laine fan but I can honestly say that if an almost 40-year-old Ovi beats him in GASH+/-.. well its definitely not a good look.

And yea Ovi is the greatest goal scorer of all time but Laine has to raise his level to match that of Ovi in this series. Could his injury affect him so much that he cant do it? I think it can, and most likely does.

But its playoffs, there are imo zero excuses for playoffs. We will see how GASH+/- of Ovi vs Laine develops during this series.

And if someone still wonders why Ovi is set against Laine in this tracker... Well, some of us (including me) still think that Laine is that guy, that he is gonna be of that level, Ovi-level.

I remember back in the day a few of his overzealous fanboys (who have disappeared) said he'd score more career goals than Ovechkin.

They cited his 80 goal headstart in his teen years as a reason why since Ovechkin started his NHL career at 20 years old.

Laine is pretty much at 25% of Ovechkin's career goals at the moment.

Bruh.. he doesn't even have a single 50 goal season in almost 10 years in the league. At this point jonathan cheechoo is closer to ovi's level than laine.
