Laine seems to have his game back. Unlikely he stays with Columbus after this year.

I think he would he awesome on the 2nd line and on the 1st PP. Calgary lacks that shooter than can score from a distance on the PP.

What would the ask be? How much would it cost to have his signed long term?

I would love him in Calgary, I would also assume that if he was available the ask would be huge.
I can't see Columbus being like: "We went from potential 1C, to potential 40G Wing, to a first and a prospect"

Lindholm or Tkachyk would be the only two players that get that guy. Wouldn't trade either of them for him.

Well theres a chance he just walks on them… so the ask wouldn’t be that big if he does that.

What about Calgary 1st 2022 + Calgary 1st 2023 + Jakob Pelletier + Sean Monahan

That seems like more than what Buffalo got for Eichel being honest with you.
If the 2023 was lotto protected or conditional, and Zary instead of Pelletier; think it'd be closer to a price Calgary could fathom. Though, I have no idea how they're going to work out the cap in Calgary if there's any hope of re-signing Gaudreau.

I think Laine would not be the best fit in a Sutter lineup. Maybe I am wrong but in terms of chemistry I think there are better ways for CGY to spend the 9+m AAV he is going to ask for.

I've been wondering if part of the equation for some of this might be that Mangiapane is part of the package out with someone like Monahan. He's along with Kylington are part of the re-sign/extension equation going forward.

In any other normal situation, don't move Mangiapane. But in an quantity for quality situation, I think you have to consider it.

shit I think you are right.
Can you say a conditional pick if he scores 25 goals as a flame in 2022-23 season?

A condition like that is fine I think as it is performance based. It's only conditions that can affect trade value due to contract/off ice stuff that is not allowed I believe.

The Blue Jackets are rebuilding no? Why would they want Tkachuk a year away from UFA or 27 year old Lindholm?

I'd assume they'd want a Seth Jones type of return - two 1sts + 2nd + Zary + salary

Don't think Calgary can afford that, especially for another winger so I'd pass. Would be dumb to sink 30M+ in three wingers even if they are Gaudreau, Tkachuk, and Laine.

Need to worry about our own cap issues with the re-signings of Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Kylington, and Mangiapane. If Monahan is getting moved, that is the only way that I see this somewhat playing out. But, a pending UFA center in 2023 doesn't make much sense to the Blue Jackets.

I guess - they just got him for a 1 for 1 though. Probably could have got more futures for PLD.

As a CBJ fan, and IMO not rebuilding; retooling. Trading PLD for Laine (and Roslovic) didn't signal a rebuild. Laine is core piece and IF traded; it would be for another core piece, not pieces.

Laine isn't being traded for anything less than an overpay. Team has control, he seems happy and he's ppg on a young struggling teams thats poised to get better.

They're use him either in a retool/training the younger core or flip him. But the Flames need to move that type of contract to make the contract fit. IMO I'd actually consider swapping Zary with a Mangiapane. It helps with our looming extensions by swapping a raise for our own ELC and I think he'd fit CBJ plans better than a magic bean.

Obviously CBJ has no reason to move Laine, but I think it potentially works better for both teams and is worth conversing about longer if someone like Mangiapane was part of the discussion over Zary/Pelletier.

How can he walk? He will be an RFA.

He walks in the same way as how Tkachuk is going to walk, because 1 year big QO isn't it? it's hyperbole.

The Eichel price really doesn’t matter for multiple reasons.
Injured, big question markd around his surgery, relationship with the management all on top of a huge contract
