@BullLund IDK, just the stuff I've seen and heard on here. Like he's as popular as Selänne in Finland and the same during his early years. Ohio is a long way from Finland though, so what do I know lol. But it could be a combination of both, he (Laine) perceives a humble or narcistic life while the opposite is true.

Whatever the issue is, I think it's obvious that Laine is the only one who can fix it.

Laine got a couple of assists, had great effort throughout the game, a couple of nice rushes, and he was kicking some Swedish ass, video of that one:

Laine during 4 nations:
- top 6 forward playing with top NHL players.
- loved by his teammates and fans.
- can pot 1-2 PP goals per game and points on ES.
- happy, hard working, looking like a stud.

--------------------------------

IMO Laine is THE biggest winner of 4 nations if the "during" part of this post materializes.
Follow-up after 2 games:
- top 6 forward playing with top NHL players. Partial Check (top 6/9)
- loved by his teammates and fans. Check
- can pot 1-2 PP goals per game and points on ES. Partial Check (only 0+1 on PP, but also 0+1 on ES)
- happy, hard working, looking like a stud. Check

For game vs Canada a PP goal would be the next step. The 3-L-line gets played top 6 minutes, but Finns 3 first lines are so solid that top 9 minutes is fine as well.

To me it looks like Patty is shaping up to be the biggest winner of 4 nations.

Thoughts guys?

Edit: Extra mention for Patty:
- Showing lots of heart in the tourney, using anger to spark his play. Playing responsibly defensively, often the first forward back to help the defence. No goals against his line during the first 2 games.

Laine for Marner? Maybe, add a 2nd and retain a few millon and its a deal I think.

Im sure Laine can talk to his buddies Pulju and Juolevi and you will have 4/5 of the top 5 of the draft.
Matthews is the base (keep adding and maybe it can work) because #LainesBetter

It's insane how people judge players on 2games. PPL in finnish forums are calling Aho to be health bombed after 2 games, yeah surely a great idea lol, we have so many players who can score on the NHL level lol

Thats crazy, he hasn't been amazing but he is one of our best players in the NHL. I'd take Aho over Armia any day.

Laine is what he's always been. A me myself and I player who treats his team mates as nothing but guys who are there to give him the puck. His job isn't to defend or to play for the team, he is there to put the puck in the net, that's what he's paid to do. Back in Finland his antics didn't result in problems as such, because his skill level was simply that far from the vast majority, at the same time even back then there was hair pulling by fans and coaches over these antics. Yet they were overlooked because the results were great. Same happened in the national team.

Now with several NHL teams having seen just how he is, it should be clear that he can not be relied to do anything but shoot and score goals. He's just too good to bother with all that defending and such, that's for the inferior players. At least in his mind. That's how his game has always looked, doesn't take a psychologist to see that

Considering how horrible he has been in Montreal, this was a huge improvement in play and a motivation boost for Laine, surely. He went against a collection of the world's best, and was able to hang in there and be productive.

It wasn't flawless by any means but he stood out positively in a forward group which included Barkov, Rantanen, Aho.

If he goes back to looking completely ineffective against way lesser players than what he faced in these games, it'd be pretty strange.

I would say so. 2nd best point maker in the tournament for Finland. Looked better than most of our stars (Aho, Hintz, Rantanen). He has his faults as a player, but you cant blame him for not trying.

Offer him to Carolina for Rantanen
