Value of: Lafreniere?

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I think they're going to wait to see how he performs with more north-south players. But he's a very inconsistent player. The moments are there. He can give you 10 points in 10 games, 6 points in 8 games, and then absolutely nothing for what feels like long stretches. He'll be turning 24 and we're still saying he needs to move his feet.

He started the season playing well, signed his contract and then fell back into a player creating 0 offense and unreliable defense, while looking lazy on the rink. But...the problem with a Lafreniere trade is that other fans know he had a disappointing follow-up to last season and want to buy low. A late first round pick doesn't do anything for us. For the organization to trade him this offseason, I would imagine it would have to be something that is going to make us better going forward.

Doesn't seem like same guy since mistreatment of veterans by Rangers. A change of scenery will put him back to last year's playoff level Lafreniere. If a deal to be had Montreal should be on it.

He is trending on bust terroritory for a first overall pick. He is getting closer and closer to Yakupov than to guys like Hall or RNH that never become the players they were expected to be but had some solid years.

The value of these blue chip guys stuck in neutral and carrying a big contract seems like it can be all over the place on this forum.

But there are going to be a lot more situations like this coming up because of the sheer number of guys that were given speculative contracts. I think overall the GM's are happy with the big 2nd contract, but there are situations like Lafreniere and Owen Power where it hurts the trade value.

Kirby Dach and a 2nd it is
Rather just hope Laf figures it out than hope Dach figures out AND stops getting injured.

Don’t think Montreal will find any takers for Dach among teams with playoff aspirations. Maybe a rebuilding team who needs to hit the cap floor and will take a flyer on a buy-low reclamation project

Hilarious how I thought he's bordering on bust for a first rounder this time 2 years ago. Then he has a season out of norm last year and i actually thought i underated him. Now back to his "bust for a 1st round" status.

His value to us with that 7.5 million for 45 points is Roy at a stretch. I get it, Rag fans think he's just "ready to bust out"...for the 4th season and 23. But at 7.5 he's expected to level to at LEAST 60 points. Closer to 70.

7.5 million gets you...Suzuki and projected 85 points, CC and 73p and Slaf at 52. Laffys salary doesn't fit in there.

It is what it is...

He's 2nd behind only Panarin on the Rangers in 5v5 scoring. He doesn't get prime PP opportunities. He's a draft disappointment but he's still solidly a top 6 winger who adds a level of physicality.

70 + points is going to get you a lot more than 7.5 going forward. I agree that he's held to higher accountability being that he's set to make more.

Probably a single mid-late 1st round pick, but I could see some foolish GM paying more. Personally, I wouldn't want the Canes to take his contract even if the cost was future considerations. And I bet there's at least a few teams that would feel that way too.

That's why you sign them early. Eventually their value catches up and then exceeds the early signing.

Laffy as a 40 pointer will not match that value until the end. ..if at all.

I had him as a mid 1st two years ago, then he spiked. Now more of a late 1st. The salary makes the value.

We’ve heard this refrain for several years. Finally it seemed to have some merit last year. Now he’s back to being that kid with potential but he’s aging out of kid status.

Rationalize all you want but this year has been a disappointment and he needs to own it. I’ve seen my share of his games and he’s skilled, has some grit but at times he’s lazy and floats. Sure he’s not getting PP1 time but ffs he’s playing with Panarin.

This is not what the team was hoping for when they signed him for $7.45M x 7 years. Of course he’s not negative value and some team might overpay for his diminished potential but his new contract is not helping his value.

What would the Rangers want from Chicago? We have a lot of 1sts and 2nd rounders. Obviously our 2025 and 2026 1st are off the table.

Nolan Allan/Kaiser + TOR 25 1st/FLA 26 1st? No idea what the value the Rags are looking for here and I don't know what their needs are besides giving their owner a lobotomy.
