Idk if I'm late with this but article on MaGuire WFAN Interview says hes not generation McDavid but will be spectacular....uh ok

Maybe he will be better than them...maybe he'll be the same or a notch below

Let's actually see
Btw McKinnon bounced around 63 to 50 points his first 4 years before he broke out to nearly 100...just saying
If not generational that's fine
I'll take him and Kakko and company being franchise status

All those bars in Ed's post led me to come to 1 obvious conclusion-Alexis gets top notch wifi

I want Kakko to be an 80 point player and Lafreniere to be a 90 point player. That's not asking too much, is it?

its fair
even if KK is just consistent 70 points, all-situations usage, crunch-time reliable for ~ 8+ years, these days, that's pretty exceptional

I just want one of our drafted forwards to hit 60 points for us because it hasn't happened in 25+ years. Tony Amonte was the last one

While factually true, I will say that Stepan had 44pts in the shortened 2012-13, 48 game season. Not his fault for that. He also averaged just under 62pts/82gms during his five prime years here. Still (and sorry to bring it up) the Jessiman, McIlrath, Staal, and Cherepanov picks hurt for various reasons.

I think with their pre-draft scouting pedigree/prognostications, expecting them to develop into those production numbers would not be considered wishful thinking.

Staal? Seriously? He was a successful draft pick.

Can't really lump in Staal and Cherepanov with busts of picks.

Nah, nah, you guys are getting me wrong. That's why I explicitly said "for various reasons".

Jessiman = Injured, Bust, and who we passed up to pick him.
McIlrath = Same as above and an offensive D wasn't his game.
Staal = never projected to be an highly offensive D.
Cherepanov = Tragedy :(

It was meant to show it was a mix of bad drafting decisions, astute drafting that filled other needs than scoring, and just bad friggin luck.

Selfishly I want to see Lafreniere and Gauthier have stellar careers on a line here together. Partially because I've been on the Gauthier train for a while but also because I think having two Quebecois talents beating up on the Habs would be fun. However, it's mostly because I want to be able to say "Laff'n Goat" all the time like it's some buddy-cop show.

Sorry. I'm going on 30 hours with no sleep.

Yeah, even with that explanation, I have a hard time labeling Staal as a bust, or even a disappointing pick. He was among the best shutdown D-men for years in the NHL. His later years may not be pretty, but all things considered, that is a damn good pick

for a while, he was one of the best in league against 2-on-1's
the eye injury, and the brother Eric concussion, did lead to earlier than had-to-be decline in his game

the OT goal vs Caps, in the Richards buzzer-beater game, remains a favorite in-person moment of this (that?) decade

I should say it more explicitly then. I BELIEVE STAAL WAS A GREAT PICK! :D ...and was everything one could want/expect before the unfortunate injuries. I'm just saying he obviously wasn't chosen to fill a scoring need so never was going to be that 60pt homegrown Ranger you desire/mentioned.

I’m a big believer that this is a bottom 5 drafting team. I think it’s the ultimate straw man argument to defend the Rangers drafting by cherry picking examples of other teams that have screwed up in a few drafts as well. The data shows they suck ass at drafting.

But Marc Staal is not proof of this. He was an excellent pick. Odd to think anything otherwise.

I think the data to the contrary is compelling and I don't think anyone in the league would agree with the assessment that they are bottom 5.

I think, at worst, they'd be placed middle of the pack. I think a good percentage would put them in the top 1/3.

Dude when you put it like that that's really bad
Yes we found Hank in the 7th...and we found other guys that have been mainstays for a while but not ONE 60point player drafted in 30 years!?!?
That's pathetic
