This was posted on his Victory+ podcast (begins at about 27:10). In essence he's saying that some people said the Habs and Rangers were talking and he thinks the big move that fell through could have been a trade for Lafreniere that was submitted a minute or two after the deadline.

Let the games begin!

Except it was Knies
There was talk of Knies but I believe that Friedman said there was a big move that Montreal was close to completing that wasn’t Knies . It’s hard to wade through all the bs that’s been reported but maybe this was it. At work so didn’t watch video but was the possible return for Laf discussed?

HE would look great with Knies, Thomas, Crosby, Parayko and all the other guys we almost acquired at the deadline.

We're running out of Halaks, Ryders and 2nds
Exactly. And I’m not sure why Hughes would be trading the entire farm for a winger (Knies or Laf) while there is an enormous hole at center.

Lafreniere in Montreal would be an absolute gong show. Drouin all over again
That depends on what the Canadiens would need to send to the Rangers. Assuming Suzuki, Caufield, and Slafkovsky were not traded, at least Laf wouldn't have the same expectations of being the next Richard/Beliveau/Lafleur.

well someone is full of shit cause the Habs had almost no cap space so there's no way they could have pulled off a trade for both Knies and Lafreniere. To add a 3rd name that was rumored at the deadline is Trocheck. So what the f*** is going on here, do these guys just need clicks for money? It's also been rumored or suggested that the NYR would not deal with the Habs due to Gorton but I don't know if that is true or not.

The Habs had Jake Evans as their 2nd line center in the playoffs, but we are supposed to believe that Hughes as going to go so heavy to get a winger or old man Trocheck? Guess we'll see what happens at the draft but unless Hughes confirms this I don't believe it.
