LA Kings Rebrand Concept

Thanks to everyone who gave real criticism, i appreciate that, and although all of the comments are great it means a lot more than the ones treating the work as a joke. I'm a graphic designer as a professional, and although i didnt get paid for this, it was all for fun, it did take a lot of time. I'm glad to generate all of this discussion, though!

Keep in mind that this is an expression of my own style as an artist, and me doing sports logos/uniforms for fun rather than "oh this is exactly what i think the kings should be wearing". It's not like the kings have hired me and given me a creative brief haha. I should have clarified: it's really not that at all, but more me attempting to think outside the box and create something modern and creative.

So, to the people who say this would never be used by the Kings, doesn't keep in mind their tradition, etc, absolutely, you're right.

Personally, I can't really see the comparisons in above posts to a tiara, because if you compare the shape of my crown logo to a tiara, how could you discount the shape of the current Kings crown? It's very similar.

Also keep in mind that half the reason these colors and uniforms are so jarring is because it's so out-of-the-ordinary compared to what LA is wearing now. It looks crazy compared to black and silver, and it is a bit of a crazy concept haha, but it is just that, a "concept". if you're ever interested in seeing more cool out of the box sports concepts, definitely check out chris creamers sports logos .net forum, the quality of work has gone down over the years but there's some great stuff. that's where i started doing this type of stuff about 8 years ago.

Purple and metallic gold can look REALLY good in sports, look at LSU's pro combat football uniform for a perfect example. The Kings have no intention of going away from black and silver though, that's simply a fact. With so much success in certain uniforms, no matter how they look, teams are going to keep them. Look at the OKC Thunder, that brand is abysmal and needs to change but fans like the colors and it is associated with success. I'm sure plenty of Kings fans' interest in hockey has really been peaked in the past 5 years and that has been with the most recent rebrand, it makes no sense to change it. That being said, I can report from my experiences on sports uniforms message boards that the kings look is considered one of the more drab looks in the league. i have always thought that they would look so much more royal, clean, and fresh overall in purple, not black with a touch of silver.

Anyways, I hope that gives you a better idea of where i'm coming from. Cheers!

I forwarded your link to two buddies that have designed "real" team jerseys and logos for all the major sports.. I'm curious what they think. Rob

I cannot stand our boring bland black and white jerseys or the home plate logo but after seeing those jerseys and the chest I would live to keep our current one. Those are truly awful not to be mean but don't quit your day job.

With graphic design, it's important to remember that, oftentimes, less is more.....

I agree, and we can even make that less and have a winner for a replacement logo.

I despise the LA home plate logo. And for those detractors...NO, I don't associate it with our two Cups. I associate the team's talent and chemistry with the two Cups.
