Kings Article: LA Kings: Inconsistent Play Stopping Forecheck Before It Can Get Started

Dunno about Amart trying left wing. He is a pretty solid defenseman, and it is not like he is going to become a Brett Burns all of a sudden. But, at the same time, it is not like it could really hurt him given how established he is. I don't think it speaks that much about our depth though if we decide to convert a life-long defenseman on the team to winger instead of calling players up or converting a winger over. Sutter said that it is really tough to expect Toffoli or Frattin to convert to left wing, well how easy does he think it is for Amart to convert from LD to LW? I think I would rather see a winger there.

DB having to wear a brace concerns me. I went through two knee surgeries and wearing hard cast braces. I still wear soft neoprene ones to this day. this is after surgeries. The hard cast braces at first to stabilize the knees, while the ligaments strengthened. Now the neoprene ones are just there for warmth of the joint.

My concern is Brown didn't have surgery in the off season and is now turning to braces of some nature. At this point he should be in a brace for stability and to protect addt'l damage from occurring. If he is wearing one beyond this, then it is a concern. Look at Kopitar last season. Why is Kings medical possibly having these guys not have the surgery to fix what is torn, partially torn, etc?

Kopi skated on one leg last year. Now DB has not looked even close to his normal ability.

I would agree with this and further say the brace for DB is to protect against moving beyond the ligaments and into a worse situation in case of a collision.

at this point i hope it is there ONLY for this. i don't understand why they have elected to not perform surgery on either of these guys. even with the partial tears they can go in, clean it up which will result typically in a faster healing process.

i pray they aren't playing these guys with partial tears and telling them to wear the braces to protect against further damage.

from what i learned going through this, that is the worse way of returning from that type of injury. my ortho told me flat out - surgery to repair the damage and clean it up. next you PT the hell out of the joint to increase strength and flexibility. lastly, you move on with a light brace for at least a year to provide some stabiliztion and warmth to the joint.

it seems they are handling this differently.

It's not like he made the choice not to have surgery in a bubble. The team doctors as wells as his had a say. If it had been necessary I'm sure he would have had it.

Speaking with the team doctors and my personal doctors here in Ithaca, they all say the same thing, if I do the rehab and put the work in, it shouldn’t be an issue – not only next year, but for the rest of my career.â€
And wearing the brace is not his idea. He wants it gone but the team wants him to wear it. http://lakingsinsider.com/2013/10/06/brown-evaluates-his-return-wears-a-brace/
“If it was up to me, it would be gone tomorrow,†Brown said of the bulky equipment addition.

“They want me to wear it, so I’ve got to just get used to it. I don’t like it, but it is what it is…It’s just protecting myself, I guess.â
