As long as he helps to keep Greene in the press box, I'm a happy man. :dumbo:

McNabb is really the key to the defense. We go as he goes. We'll go as far as he takes us. He sets our tone. He is our flying spaghetti monster.

I want McNabb to be to Doughty what Norstrom was to Rob Blake. Hopefully those two become a permanent pairing for a long time.

I just don't think McNabb has the lateral movement and quickness to be anywhere near as good defensively as Norstrom. There is no shame in that, but McNabb will be better served avoiding the best offensive players from the opposition every shift.

Norstrom was a great skater. I remember he could skate backward like nobody's business. I think the reference was less about style of play and more about how he could compliment Drew out there. It's going to be hard for McNabb to avoid the best offensive players from the opposition if he's partnered with Drew. He doesn't have to be fleet of foot with that reach. Both Mitchell and Scuderi weren't the quickest guys and they were both effective partnered with Doughty. Late bloomers to boot. I like what I see so far with the chemistry between Drew and McNabb. Completely different look than when Sutter partnered them early last season for a spell.

:handclap:

Still scares me we are one injury away from Greene back in there, hopefully that can be addressed at the deadline.

I am a big McNabb fan, his handing was awful last year, hopefully he can keep playing strong and get back to the level he was at last season before the benching,

Glad he was bumped to the first pair... I was starting to worry he didn't have the foot speed for the second pairing.... Problem solved. :naughty:

I wouldn't count on the Kings being buyers this year if the top six isn't more productive, but maybe a buyer will take Greene due to his playoff experience.

If McNabb really turns into a top pairing defensemen, it will be one of the top 5 trades DL ever made. Not that what we gave up was garbage, but I dont think Deslauriers or Fasching ever become top line players. Or even 2nd line.

Let's pump the brakes here a little.

2 weeks ago he was scratched in favor of Jeff Schultz and Matt Greene, one is an AHL d-man and the other is AHL caliber.

I think McNabb has the talent to be a #3 or a really good #4, but he needs to be more consistent but also he needs to be able to play his game without looking over his shoulder anytime he makes a mistake.

People undervalue Green on this board. Its still early in the season. He is an older defenseman that was playing though an injury and needs time to heal up and get back in the groove. While not apparent now, we can't have our entire defense be composed of puck moving offensive defensemen. We need a defenseman like Green and Regher to play physical and importantly pin the offensive players down low, which is especially critical in the playoffs where there is less time and space.

I wouldn't mind having Green take all the time that he needs early in the year to recover so that we can use him in the playoffs when it counts (if we make it).

You are talking about Matt Greene circa 2011 and 2012. Time and age has passed him by and most forwards do as well. Every f***ing game. He can't hit and forecheck if the guy is already past him by 15 feet in the defensive zone. And then he takes a dumbass penalty.

So no, we are not undervaluing him. He is a leader in the room, no doubt about it. But on the ice now? I think it's very telling that Carter was wearing an "A" against Colorado.

2012 Greene sure, I don't want 2015 Greene anywhere near the lineup.

I was typing something out similar to this, but you make the point better than I would've. It's close to 2016, this ain't even the Summer of 2014 when we saw the last vestiges of Greene being an effective player in short spurts. Not only are the 6 defensemen being iced currently better puck movers than Greene, they're all better defenders. Every single one of them. Beating someone up near the boards is so overrated, especially when it often results in a penalty. I'd take the guy who's better positionally and can actually dislodge and retrieve a puck 10/10 times.

We will see Greene again, no doubt. Just also be prepared to see him and his partner pinned down in the Kings defensive zone more often than not. The guy simply cannot move his feet like he used to and is stuck to resorting to a lot of clutching and grabbing and occasional roughing in order to play defense. What we've seen over the last 2 games is the past and future of Kings defense. Limit shots, dislodge/retrieve the puck and then pass or skate the puck into transition. Not coincidentally, the Kings dominated in possession.

Don't know why it's telling. Greene wasn't in the lineup, due to injury, so they gave the A to Carter, a seasoned vet, who's moved up the leadership ladder with Richards, Stoll and Williams gone.

Gawd!

Can't you guys just like one player without hatin' on another??? Is it cool to hate, is it?

Greene maybe slower, but he also serves a purpose out on the ice. Stop the hate boys.

So they are taking the A away from Carter when Greene returns from his injury?

No one is hating, girl. We are just making it clear why Greene should not be in the lineup.

Stop being so sensitive, sweetheart.
