Not too bad if Kempe and Gravel are exempt. I guess Gravel is exempt because his first year was with Manchester?
As far as I can tell, it only says first and second year professionals. Gravel is certainly not exempt. For Kempe, it all depends if they count 14-15 when he played 3 regular season and 17 playoff games in Manchester. If that counts, he is not exempt.
I'm pretty sure Kempe played those games on an amatur try out deal. So Kempe should be exempt.
Just more clarification, according to Bill Daly its professional experience under NHL contract. So, both Kempe and Gravel will be exempt.
So would guys like Forbort, Dowd, or any kid on the farm need protecting??? or is it just guys on the Kings roster?????
Forbert and Dowd need protecting. Any player that signed with the Kings and has played 3 years or more in the AHL/NHL. Gravel is exempt because his 3 years in the AHL won't include the first year because he played under an AHL contract with Manchester.
Now I'm not sure again on Kempe. Apparently he signed with the Kings before he played those playoff games in Manchester so that looks like 3 seasons to me (unless there was a age/game limit factor).
Also found this... which is even more clear in regards to AHL players...
Players with two years of professional experience or less will be exempt from the process. Determining who that covers is based on the definition included in the collective bargaining agreement – meaning that 10 games played in the NHL at age 18 or 19 counts as a season, as does any American Hockey League or NHL season for players older than that.
I think Kempe is still exempt because his 3 year nhl contract wasn't effective till the 2015-16 season. Only time in the AHL under an NHL contract counts.
Also HookKing, can you elaborate a bit more on how the NHL/AHL contract stipulation works???
