Weekes: LA Kings Brandt Clarke on the move?

They are 3 of the top 20-25 players in the NHL right now, and for the last few years. Wendell Clark and Doug Gilmour were literally interviewed last week during the intermission and stated that these 3 are 3 of the greatest Leafs ever. Marner at the age of 27 is the fastest Leaf ever to 700 assists passing Sittler in about 80 less games. Matthews within the next 50 games or so will be the All time leading goal scorer by the age of 28. Nylander in the next year or two will be in the top 3 as well.

How is that an insult to anyone? They literally are 3 of the best to ever wear the sweater.

"[Doughty's] game came at the expense of young defenceman Brandt Clarke. Yeah, there was a little bit of undercurrent of speculation about if he could be in play," Dreger explained. "He’s not in play. He’s a young defenceman who just experienced how tough it is to stay in the NHL.”

I grew up in the Sundin years, where people shit on them all the time as the overpaid muskoka 5. Those guys accomplished more in the playoffs in a couple seasons than this group has in 8 years, and weren't as overpaid compared to their peers either.

We traded up for him, too. Our amateur scouting staff is phenomenal, and then Blake and our development staff ruin things. We’re a much better team minus Fiala, Kuemper, PLD, etc and instead having Vilardi and Faber still in the fold (not to mention the extra 1st and 2nd rounders).

I heard the Kings amateur scouting was super high on Gabriel Eliassson as well. Makes me feel better at wasting a 2nd rounder on him if the Kings amateur scouting valued him so highly.

If Clarke is moved it better be in a massive package for an upgrade that is still young like Quinn Hughes.

We have a young, cost controlled, offensive defenseman on a team starved for goals. He does have some defensive warts but he is also capable of being pure offense. He showed this at the beginning of the year averaging point a game for the first 11 games until our idiot coach called them out and then proceeded to neuter him because he wasn’t playing LA Kings hockey. Lately we see what playing LA Kings hockey gets this team. We have the same type of person upfront in Kevin Fiala. You can see the guy oozes offensive creativity, but because of our system being so robotic, and our players lacking, high skill, he cannot play the game he wants to and when he does, we have no players that can figure out what he’s doing.

If Blake does trade him, it’ll probably be for some troglodyte knuckle dragger that would’ve highly been sought after in the dead puck era.
