Post-Game Talk: LA drowning in Oil tonight

One thing I haven’t seen anybody mention in this thread was how Kaner immediately responded when Gavrikov added two extra unnecessary cross checks on McDavid while Connor was laying on the ice (go figure shit for brains refs didn’t call a penalty). The moment Kane went after him, Gavrikov immediately backed off like a chicken shit and hid behind the ref. Even good ol Klingberg got involved by giving Fiala the stinky glove. Kaner has his bad moments here and there, but you’d have to be a complete idiot to deny guys like him bring much needed extra swagger to the team. I always respect any player on the team that sticks up for their teammates. Win it at home in game 6, Oilers.

Hell yeah.

I said in the GDT when that happened that it was pretty clear Kane wanted to fight Gavrikov. Gavrikov realizing that immediately could not get away from Kane fast enough.

But in the NHL, you can only evade justice for so long. So when Kane runs Kempe through the glass 3 shifts later the message is sent. After that every King shrunk around Kane or got bullied by him. He basically had free reign to do what he wanted with and without the puck.

Scary thought if you're LA. Worse if you think they're gonna go back to Kempe on defence semi-regularly in Game 6. It's gonna be chip and chase with a huge hit right on the #9.

As long as the Oilers continue to commit to the physical game LA is done.

Haha. CP has more pages of comments on the game today than the actual LA Kings GDT. Talk about an unhealthy obsession. No need to stop by, it’s mostly just the usual trash - ‘grease pigs this’ and ‘glitter twins that’ and our most ardent critic with a series of astute observations on the game …

Anytime I see screenshots of this CP mouth breather Rejean, what I always think of immediately in my head is this gif:

It’s funny how heading into the series almost every one in the media and ppl doing hockey brackets picked the kings because they said they were much improved, had more depth and the goaltending than edm. Where is the depth? Where is this balance and scoring? Even pickard is out dueling kuemper.
Those guys are idiots they don’t know anymore then the average X poster

Friedman actually did make a good point...the Kings let us off the mat and we are making them pay
that was one of the their best games of the season, Pickard was rock solid

and the depth won us the game!

need an even better game to close this out on Thursday at home!
Let’s us off the mat is a back handed compliment. The oil dominated the last near 2 games and should have won gm 1. Gives the oil no credit f*** Friedman

The chances stats tonight are friggen absurd.

Good lord we ran their show.
Oilers expected goals the last 3 games:
4.92
6.2
6.57

Seeing people dragging Kuemper but in reality he's +7 goals saved above expected in the last 4 games. If you remove game 1 he's got the best numbers in the playoffs. Oilers are just generating more than he can handle.

Very impressive effort. After the Oil got down 0-2, game five (assuming they got there) was always going to be the key game. They HAD to win at least one game in L.A,, and this was it.

You can kind of tell from this game that the game four loss was in the LA players' heads and they hadn't recovered. I was laughing my ass off at that loooong two-on-one (in the first?) with Kuzmenko (who, to be fair, scored later) when he stopped up and tried the behind-the-back pass... to nobody. Just completely whiffed on a Grade-A scoring chance. That's when I knew the Oil were in their heads.

But Edmonton completely dominated and the score flatters L.A.

I thought Wallman and Nurse and Bouchard were all very good. It was certainly the best defensive effort since Ekholm went down.

Kane didn't take any penalties (a bonus!) and he even made two very noticeable huge defensive efforts. And he scored! Credit to him.

Janmark got it done in a really big moment. Brutal rebound by Kuemper on that one!

In this series so far, the Oilers are collectively +29 and the Kings are collectively -29. Edmonton has owned LA at evens. It's just the Kings' PP and the Oilers' brutal PK that has even made this a series.

Not sure if the guys can keep up this level of intensity to close it out in game six, but I sure hope so. Please no game 7 in L.A.

About as dominant a win as you could possibly watch, and probably the first game in this series where you can flatly argue the Oilers were the better team throughout. Won every period. Score flatters the Kings, a testament to Kuemper. Weirdly enough, least effective game I've seen from Draisaitl and McDavid so far (absurd point streak preserved for Drai) - maybe because every line was going full tilt.

Odd decision for LAK to make Evander Kane emotionally engaged.

With all this talk about Hiller's game management, should be shouted out that Knoblauch was relentlessly aggressive and quite successful with his 4 line deployment, despite LAK's staff being line matching savants (huge part of their dominant home record). Good coaching by Knob.

Frederic looked great with Rico and Brown. Janmark was probably the "worst" forward till he scored a beauty. Walman and (?!?) Klingberg were amazing. Pickard did exactly what he needed to.

Job's not finished. They're fighting for their lives, their coach and their dignity on Thursday. They got outfoxed badly on what they thought Edmonton could bring tonight. Gotta expect they come flying in the first.
