“It could go to $9M… Sign Knies first and see what’s leftover… because he’s going to get offer sheeted.”

    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

If he signs for $9M a year somewhere else what do the Leafs get in return? 3, 4 or 5 1st Round picks? Anyone know?

Here is what I found for compensation if he is signed elsewhere:

I’m taking the 4 1st round picks.

Knies is good, he’s not 2 million dollars less than nylander good

It’s a 3 year bridge, the team or player don’t need to complicate this
See my chart, he wouldnt qualify for the 4 1st Round Picks.

Im on the record as saying I'd basically allow any player to leave for 4 1st Round picks. In fact, I was hoping Marner would get offered sheeted lol but Dubas gifted him money no team would be foolish enough to give in an RFA. The cap savings on a player has great value as well and I could pry many excellent players with those picks and cap space.

That said, I want Knies to stay here no question. He was an untouchable to me as he came through the system and I am a big fan of his. He could become a real hero in this city with his play. A modern day Gary Roberts but with better teammates. The sky is the limit here no question.

I guess once these guys get a taste of the Toronto money, it's never enough eh?
Yeah I saw that and it almost certainly has a withdrawal clause if he leaves the Canadian market.

I saw this as a real positive sign for Knies wanting to stay here. The guy is playing with a fellow Arizonan who is a mega star in the country, they have Doan here and he is in the biggest hockey market on earth. All signs point to him wanting to stay for every reason one could think of.

This Adidas agreement is basically a sugar laden appeal that allows the Leafs to have greater buying power above the cap limit. Similar to endorsement deals Matthews, Nylander and Marner seems to get with their commercials. You aren't getting endorsements in many hockey markets and they accumulate in some places. Hell, his brother is in one of the ads which means he's even getting rewarded for Matthew Knies hockey career, it's great as a player to be able to reward family who were part of your success in one form or another.

Here's hoping he signs an OS and Leafs match (could be a good thing like the Aho OS).

If he gets a ridiculous OS and you take the picks and Marner walks for nothing, they are f***ed. LOL.

are we? I thought we could just sign a bunch of UFA’s with the extra cap space and be fine? Hard working ones!

If he gets offersheeted at 9mil I think it's a pretty easy decision to let him go, especially if it's from a club that's expected to be on or outside the playoff bubble next season. At 9.16mil or above it's a no brainer.

Exactly and those players were 1st rounders too. What I’m saying is I don’t think the leafs will over pay based on the 5 guys I named. A few of them signed bridge deals too,

Ya, I was agreeing with you, there are some comparables, but every single one listed has a better chance of being a superstar over Knies, so I think some potential is built into their contracts where I see a lower ceiling with Knies.

If anything, he should be slightly below those comparables.

Let's not forget who he is playing with. Similar to Domi last year, he looks like an all star, take him off of the line and he is a mere mortal.

He wouldn't have these number of goals playing with anyone. Just the facts.

Easy to replace a soft, perimeter player who can't score and disappears past game 85 and wants $13+m. More difficult to also replace what Knies brings in the playoffs and he still hasn't reached his ceiling at 22.

Even so, I'll take the picks if he signs an OS for $9m. That is not good business.
