In his draft year I couldn't believe how slight he was. He said he was going to college for two years--rushing the project hasn't helped. Too many people I know say that he was the absolute goods but I didn't see it at the summer or spring u-18s. Never got him as Central's No. 1.

Why do people keep bringing up his size as an excuse? He was picked two spots after Patrick Kane, who looked like he was 12 when he was drafted.

That said, I also agree with the people preaching patience. Not every prospect is waiting to hop into the league and be the next Ovechkin. He was rushed, but now his development track seems to be straightening out. He still has plenty of time to get it all together.

One thing thats going to make Turris successful in the NHL is his shot.

Dont let the stats in the AHL fool you, its not about stats in the AHL. Next year Turris should do 80 - 25 - 35 - 60 :naughty:

Without exaggeratiom, Turris looked like he should have been running x-country not playing hockey. Kane was small, Turris was gaunt.

His ~$2.6 M cap hit, it ends next year, does anyone know what we can expect after that? Reason is because he hasn't played for them much. So if he does have a 60 point season next year, is the new contract gonna be around the same or a pay boost? And if he doesn't perform as high as they hope for then is there any chance of him getting a pay cut?

the kid was/is built like a stick. He's got good skill, he'll just take the slower, more methodical route of learning how to be better at all aspects of the game, while continuing to pack on the meat. He's got to get at least a bit bigger.

Keep in mind that a summer of training was undone by mono and another summer was spent on the shelf, recovering from back surgery. It hasn't exactly been ideal circumstances for packing on the pounds. At least not the right way.

why didnt he play in the whl instead of the bchl?

Players who play in Provincial Junior leagues like BCJHL and AJHL are considered pure amateurs and can play NCAA hockey after. Major Junior players get meal money so aren't considered amateurs. That is actually pretty common.

Bobby Ryan was drafted 2nd behind Crosby and was buried in the ducks AHL for a couple of years.

For a 2nd overall draft pick, Bobby Ryan is a bust.

i dont see the logic in calling a 30+ goal scorer in both his first 2 nhl campaigns a bust at 2nd.

the only other player that anyone could say deserves to have gone higher is Anze Kopitar. no rookies this year with the exception of hornqvist (played 2 games over the rookie min last year) have scored 30+........i would say Ryan was a great pick at 2.

That's not the only think you don't see...

Anyways, a guy like Turris is a great offersheet target next year. Top end potential but the Yotes may have to let him go if he signs a big offersheet.
