Dubas said he wouldn’t bet against Malkin , Crosby, Letang. Malkin will be 37, the other two 36. Where do I wager Kyle? This line of thinking will just make the inevitable rebuild more painful.

Man, that just looks bad...Dubas is clearly patronizing the ownership group...Dubas is a sweet talker and charmer for sure...Malkin, Crosby and Letang at 29 or 30? Absolutely...but not at the age they are at. When's the last time a core of 36 plus year old players carry a team to winning the Stanley Cup?

They could dominate the old timers game. Skate circles around Gretzky probably.

There is 0 chance Sullivan lasts the season

Dubas doesn't like people who aren't yesman

The 19-20 team was built horrifically. In part because Dubas was trying to get Babs out
Sully is well liked in Pittsburgh but if Dummy wants, he happy to swap Keefer for Sully 1 for 1. Maybe he can be a legend in Pittsburgh along with Badger Bob.

You've got to understand how corporate climbers operate. The general manager Kyle Dubas chooses will not be an impressive individual. We saw the stunt Dubas tried to pull on the very man who gave him the chance of his lifetime. Climbers always hire individuals with zero chance of threatening their own position.
so Spezza their new GM???????

Are we going to call those Dubas fans Transpens, since they will most likely be switching to support Pens and those Treliving fans TransLeafs?

Think they need some young blood like JT.

that'd be the 67 Leafs...............

I think it’s clear what happened now.

Pens through back channels offered Dubas the President job. He had that in his back pocket. That’s why he went back and asked for a new financial package.

He wanted similar pay and autonomy as the Pens job.
Ding ding ding

Going from Burke/Hexstal to Dubas/whoever is quite an upgrade. Dubas played this perfectly. The criticism he is getting in this thread doesn't make sense honestly. At least there seems to be a rivalry here which is cool.

The criticism comes from being a total liar. He pulled the rug out on Shanny last minute cause he had that Pittsburg deal in his back pocket. Then gave us this sob tale about muh family and how he'd never be GM anywhere else 🤣

Now the question is how long he's had this deal in his back pocket. You'd have to imagine if you're Kyle and the plan is to blindside Shanny last minute..... The odds of him agreeing to that deal are low. Even Kyle had to know that our maybe he's just that narcissistic.

He's the phony many of us said he was. It's always the ones that scream the loudest about how progressive they are that operate with zero morals and ethics.

Imo he's had this job in his back pocket for months. It's why he kept pushing the extension signing. And instead of talking to Shanny about it... He decides tactically to be a snake and put a gun to our head at the 11th hour.

He's a certified POS.

Sure are a lot of butt hurt from people on this forum who supposedly can't stand the guy. He got fired...and he got another, better job. He's gone. You won. Move on. Sheesh. It's like all those "Kadri so good...buh buh...we got hosed!". After his return to normal this year, those yobs are suspiciously silent. As should all you other yutz's still bitching about Dubas.
:deadhorse
It seems the Dubas thing is continuing because some in here continue to sing his praises and are telling everyone that the leafs are so much worse off now. So you know, people respond.

For those that listened to the Dubas PC today you can't help but snicker at the new Fewway Group exec who introduces his new President by reading his name off a crumpled paper notes in front of him and pronounces it as due-Bass with the emphasis on the Bass (sounding similar to how one would pronounce the fish) and Kyle turns to him in disbelief. :)

Bar set low...check
Going to a lesser team was essentially the reality of the situation if Dubas wanted that promotion. In turn, Pittsburgh can point to the fact that they brought in someone from a team that cracked this season's 'Final 8'.

Dubas couldn't do jack shit getting handed core 4 + Rielly for free (JT basically signed himself).

What is he going to do with those grandpas in Pittsburgh with even softer D than us

Lots of noise for a GM who restructured his team to have terrible analytics with .500 or less hockey that carried into the playoffs

It seems as if if either Shanahan, or most likely parts of the ownership the board, did not want a formal extension offer settled until the post season based on the media coverage - and from Shanahan's own presser.
yeah that's what ii thought. I don't really have my iron-trap memory but I knew that didn't seem right.

again - this i not me dumping on anyone here.. but i do think it is telling that Dubas didn't thank people realy here in Toronto (and/or by name). it does speak volumes.

I noticed that when being introduced, they said he built Toronto into a perennial contender...lol. You mean he inherited the parts to a perennial contender and proceeded to F that up?

Nylander drafted by Nonis
Matthews was a no brainer
Marner picked by Hunter
Reilly drafted by Burke
Tavares pj photo was taken
round 1992

The rest of the roster reminds of the Keanu Reeves movie "the replacements"

Shanahan decided he wanted Dubas back in March and they worked out the deal with his agent. Dubas could have signed before the playoffs started or made his ask for more money known. He intentionally blindsided the organization with his money grab thinking they would have no choice but to sign it.

I doubt that any new agreement was there to be made considering the difference between the role Dubas held here and the one he will now assume with Pittsburgh.
