He's got to be one of the most underrated players in the NHL. He's quietly put up 251 pts in his last 236 regular season games. It's too bad he plays in a small market, if he was on a big market team he would be getting a lot more spotlight.

I think this year he finally scores 50 goals and will likely put up 90-100pts. He's on another level this year.

Absolutely wild that even in a start where his team is 9-1 he manages to be outscored at 5v5. I guess some things never change.

Maybe the Jets coaches should see if the massive sample of like 2500 minutes over the last 4 seasons showing that Connor and Scheifele do better apart 5v5 than together is a pattern rather than just a blip on the radar.

Nah, it's fine. Keep rolling them out there. It's going great.

He's consistently an excellent goal-scorer, which is obviously impressive. My observation of his 5v5 play (admittedly I don't watch Winnipeg a whole lot) is that he is not an elite player, though. I'll disclaim that by saying that I possibly have a stringent definition of elite.

I think if he played in a different market he would get significantly more attention, though, that's for sure.

He put up 93 points in 21-22. I'd say he's been elite since then and the Jets knew what he was in 19-20 when they gave him $50M. I think hes amazing and I think everyone knows he is. Someone will give him $10M in 2 years if the Jets dont pony up.

Well I go look at the NHL stats he is at plus 5 . If you are going to come on here just to trash talk at least try to get facts straight . Troll

It’s a little weird that he doesn’t get more attention. Small market, I get it, but other Jets players get plenty of attention. He’s been scoring at a really consistent 40-goal pace for a long time now, which is a pretty rare thing in this league. Somehow he doesn’t get the corresponding amount of press that would normally go with that.

Yep. OP's premise is a joke. Kyle Connor is not elite. He's somehow underwater at 5v5 for his career, despite having so much individual scoring talent and playing in front of Connor Hellebuyck.

It takes a special kind of defensive ineptitude to accomplish that.

Underrated? He's not a good 5v5 player. Connor is one of the most overrated players in the league.

Despite what they may say, most people don't know puck. They're opinions are formed literally from looking at the "points" column on HockeyDB.

I don't get this. Kyle Connor always comes up on "most underrated" lists. So clearly people think he's good.

And yet he gets outscored every season.

Do elite guys get outscored every season at 5v5? He plays in front of Connor Hellebuyck? How bad do you have to be defensively to accomplish that?

You literally do not know how plus/minus is calculated. LMAO.

He absolutely destroys the Blues every time we play the Jets, I know that for sure. He is good for at least one nice goal every game.

Very debatable whether he is elite or not
He is a very gentlemanly player as he was preciously a Lady Byng trophy winner

He's an absolutely elite scorer, no question, very dangerous, but hasn't done 50 or 100 so he's not 'up there'.

This only focuses on the one player on the ice instead of the other 2 on his line. So he can be an elite goal scorer, but, still be outscored.
I don’t think anyone disputes that he’s a good goal scorer. There are things that hold him back from being a truly elite player though.

Depends on how you define elite, for me, that's reserve for very few. You watch Edm, it's clear McDavid is an elite player, you watch Colorado, its clear MacKinnon is an elite player. When I've seen Wpg play, he just doesn't stand out to me. He's been top 20 in overall scoring 2 times in his career, never top 10...been top 10 for goals 3 times though. Since entering the league, he's 9th in goals and 26th in points. That just doesn't get to elite for me....along with eye test.

He seems to be a quick starter though, at least this year and last as I went back to last year as I remember him being near the top in goals for awhile....didn't check prior years. He lead the league in goals with 14 in 17 games last year around mid-November. He finished nowhere close to the top by the end of the year. Injuries played part of that, but even without that, he wouldn't be close.

Sadly yes. Draisaitl is my biggest example of being atrocious defensively.

18-19 - 76 ES points. +2
19-20 - 66 ES points. -7
22-23 - 66 ES points. +7

When you dissect Leon, outside of the PP, for a lot of seasons, hes basically an even player or really not that much in the positive and that is wild considering he plays anywhere from 20-50% of ES ice time with 97 throughout his career. He s a consensus top 5 forward in the league right?

I agree, Id want a more defensively responsibly guy on my team, but points are points.

The oilers have outscored their opponents by 50 goals even strength over the past 3 years with Draisaitl on the ice
