Clifford the big red dog.

Not the most skilled guy out there, but the one with the most heart and that was good enough for me. Appreciated what he was a part of.

I’ll be tuning in often to watch Leaf games the rest of the way to see him bring it night in, night out.

Best of luck to him. Never know, he might just be back in LA next season.

Crazy that we got to watch Clifford come in as a quiet 19 year old to become one of the best leaders the Kings have ever had.

I'll be forever grateful for his services and wish him only the best.

I remember this. Kyle also scored a similar goal against Chicago in the '14 playoffs with an assist from Carts. Think it was game 7. Team was down 2-0 or 2-1 if I recall right. Battling Kyle Clifford! Cheers!

I always wonder how good Clifford might have been had they sent him to the AHL to work on his offensive game and without the injuries. He was 1 of my favorite players because you always knew what you were getting. He will be missed but not forgotten and I'd be ok with bringing him back this summer.

He was an early second round pick after all - 35th selection in 09.

Talent Analysis

Clifford is a straight ahead player with an edge. Skating is just OK – has heavy feet and needs to make sure he keeps his feet moving to get speed – skating has shown improvement over the season. If straight pass in not available does nice job of advancing pucks. During offensive plays and cycles makes it very difficult for D to contain him with his good size and strength. Responsible in D zone making strong plays getting pucks out. Plays physical style of game looking to finish hits and make contacts. - International Scouting Service

While he did play with Westgarth and then Nolan and now MacDermid, he pretty much felt like the designated fighter during his entire time here. Not very often that you get a fighter that comes in straight from Juniors and then stays on the team for 10 years.

While not the best fighter in Kings history--or even close to best enforcer since he is too honest--he answered the bell for a very long time and should have the respect of all Kings fans.

While no other Kings fighter ever had the opportunity to play a regular shift in double overtime of a SCF game, it should be noted that Clifford was out there and most other tough guy types wouldn't have been. Perfect zone entry and then hard drive to the net that occupied the defenseman leaving Martinez all alone for the Cup winner.

That's legit stuff. Guy can play hockey and was one of the rare dudes in this new era that you could put in the lineup, feel like you had toughness but also not have to shorten your bench considerably in the name of dressing toughness.

Yes, there needs to be spots open for young guys but there also needs to be the right mentors and leaders. Take a look at this squad, imagine more guys gone at the trade deadline, and then ask yourself who those players are. Hell: forget about guys leaving at the trade deadline and just ask yourself who those guys are. Due to this, I really hope he is back in the fold on at least a two year contract.

Thanks for everything Kyle. You never took a shift off and were a key contributor to the only two championships this franchise has ever known. A true Kings' legend.

Cliffy is one of those players who's a King for life, no matter how long he ends up playing elsewhere. Thanks for always giving it your all.

Not to detail the main thrust of the thread (I too wish him nothing but good fortune in Toronto), but this is a great point. I'm usually ambivalent about bringing back now-ex-Kings (in fact, more often than not, I feel the parting is probably for the best), but bringing this guy back for a few years at a reasonable price would definitely be a sound move, given the composition of that locker room and how many youngsters the Kings figure to be trying to integrate into the team over the next few years...
