A look at what Mac’s underlying numbers were when he signed his deal. They were paying for what he would become and it’s now basically the best deal in the league. I know what his stats were, you don’t need to post them Jim.
Like this will work.
Unfortunately every subsequent player that needs a contract will use the Nico and Jack contracts as a measuring stick.
Do you not see the domino effect here? You gave out too rich of a contract to Nico...Jack will have an argument to be paid similar... Bratt has much better offensive numbers than Jack at every step of the way and who is say his potential isn't still high...You really want 20+ million wrapped up in these 3 players long term? I personally don't think their skill warrants it.
Centers are more inherently valuable and Fitz would be gambling on his future production. 7.25m isn’t that much when you consider three UFA years are involved. [It’s a bit unclear when the salary cap is actually going to go up again though, but that’s a bigger discussion.]
There are arguments for bridge deals into a 8 year deal but “he hasn’t earned it!” isn’t actually one of them. It’s about estimating what are the best contacts in terms of age and cost are (plus how to keep top players from leaving as UFAs).
I don’t have a contract in mind for Bratt but it’s certainly going to be less than that unless his offensive production really kicks up. He’s older and an undersized winger. His goal scoring issues last season hurt him as well.
It’s really impossible to guess his contract numbers, I guess maybe something around 4-5m if things go well for him this season but I don’t know. That’s a complete random guess, his goal scoring has been really wonky, it’s been up and down and last season was screwy in general, that it’s hard to predict.
And I just realized this isn’t the regular team thread.
Congrats Janne!
