Only one pick this year, one pick next year. They're going to have to spend at least one pick in this year's draft in a trade. Better for a depth D as opposed to the Dallas first.
Yeah, yr math checks out, only 2 picks
but
I don't see the add being worth almost any payment

don't get me wrong, yr target could be a quality add
but if a deal w/ANA, would prefer sniper Vatrano at half and use picks to that

Aan exception could be Zac Jones b'c we see he is Fox lite, and there is/will be zero room for him here.
B'c vet acquired likely to be a rental not sitckin 'round
Moving ZJ = one less at LD logjam of at min Robertson now and Scanlin ready next yr.

Everything has to be case by case basis with an open mind,
and so exceptions prove the rule
but
we need to add less, and esp less vets

and remember, we can always use current/added picks to upgrade
e.g., Jones + late Avs 3rd for a better 3rd ?

As I believe @cwede suggested, Korzack straight up?
We have borderline surplus, he can go

It's a strong draft. (So they say. So we think)
But nobody is looking at the draft and going "It's too strong to trade a 3rd or 4th". That's not what they mean by strong draft.

Full concur + agree
BUT BUT BUT
what if there is somebody we really like in the 2nd round or maybe even very late 1st.

Could do that 2nd + 3rd
or
that 2nd + 3rd + __________

Howev, to go there, we must have not made mistake of squander/splurge moved those picks!

Gotta think ahead

like chess, not checkers ahead

Our 2nd + 3rd + poop isn't getting us a 1st.
But, we're talking about a 3rd and 4th here and none of that is getting us anywhere close to the late 1st. We have too many prospects that will never sniff the ice as it is. We aren't a team right now that needs 7-10 current draft picks, unless we toss away a lot of those players.

Thanks. You will find most Rangers fans are pleasant and knowledgeable, at least here. It's the minority "Nu Yawk Rainjazz" fans that unfortunately somehow have come to represent all Rangers fans.

BTW I love Honda Center. That and the SAP Center with the huge promenades are just great. I was at the game years ago where the Ducks beat the Canucks like 9-2 when Torts was coaching Vancouver. Great atmosphere, and we all got free appetizers from Hooters.
I don’t think it has anything to do with the sect of fans that have obnoxious accents.

I’ve been on these boards for going on 17 years now and it’s always been a bit snarky, but it’s gotten progressively worse over the years.

a) I specified a late 1st, so context
some of our prospects are keepers, others not so much
b) we need the picks to keep recycling/upgrading the prospect pool
just imo here

adding rentals 99% of time does not work if measure of success = cup, not anything short

Watching both teams i think Kulikov could do very well in NY. Ducks defense system is a mess and think Kulikov would be a nice upgrade on that bottom LHD slot. He’s played mostly on the right side in Anaheim, but can play either side.

What would you say is fair value as a fan of both sides.

Personally I was fine with the 3rd + 4th in diff drafts.

I think that’s fair. Ducks paid nothing for him so shouldn’t cost the Rangers that much. Imo.

I’m not very good at these proposals so not sure, lol.

I think Kulikov is the type of D-man who somewhat surprisingly ends up being traded for a second. Reliable bottom pair veteran, low salary cap hit of $2.25M (even more so if the ducks retain), playoff experience, and a bit of grit. Very attractive to a playoff team.

Anaheim definitely should retain if it meant getting a 2nd
Oh def if retaining on him can get us a 2nd... 100%

Seems like the type of player teams might buy higher on late after all the bigger names are gone.... im hoping for a 3/4 but if a 2nd is possible on him its a huge win.

I don’t want the Rangers to trade for Kulikov. He is better on the right and they need a guy for the left

The internet in general is that way. It's pretty bad and I've had to take a break from here and other places just due to the sheer negativity.

Kulikov was acquired for nothing and has not had a good year. He doesn't have a big contract so retention is a meaningless argument. His value is a 3rd at the high end and he may not even get that. The way a Kulikov trade has a 2nd involved this TDL is if a bigger piece than Kulikov is involved.

Rangers want several small adds. Kulikov as a veteran big steady bottom pair LHD on an expiring contract makes sense.

2023 4th or 2024 3rd. Your choice
