When did they find the hole? He couldn’t have been playing with a known heart hole?
Just to be clear - Letang did not have a prior procedure to repair the hole in his heart. This is the first time that's been done. @Andy99 is mistaken.
Letang was diagnosed with the defect in 2014 following his first stroke. He was advised he could continue playing.
The hole was the cause again in 2022.

Letang returns to practice 10 days after stroke
Penguins defenseman Kris Letang returned to practice just 10 days after suffering the second stroke of his career.www.espn.com
Never had heart surgery. He was diagnosed with a heart defect when his stroke issues came to light.Feels like he’s had a couple of these already , surprised he’s still playing
Could be, but it could just be surgeon's schedule opened up and he chose to have it done sooner than not. It's a meaningless game. This is in relation to the two minor strokes he suffered. While it was always relatively low risk, especially when you understand the issue and signs/symptoms, this should take to risk to nearly zero.
It's an odd time to do it with a single game left so I have to wonder if there was something that provoked it that made it more urgent?
Was robbed of a NorrisGlad to hear Letang's okay. Have always respected his career, hope he gets into the HHOF.
Dude needs to LTIretire.
Should be first ballot HOF.
Could just as easily have been that his surgeon wasn't available in late April, and who cares about one extra meaningless game? Pens have been cooked for months. Who knows when they scheduled it.It's an odd time to do it with a single game left so I have to wonder if there was something that provoked it that made it more urgent?
Did he everIsnt Letang the dreamy guy who gave someone a ride home one wintery night?
