There's been a lot of talk that most of the RSN's that the baseball teams own will shut down in the next few years. MLB is talking about basically opening up MLB TV to in market as well. The billionaire owners are going to plead poverty next year and there's going to be a massive labor dispute that will likely lead to an NFL style salary cap introduced (but also a salary cap floor to stop Oakland, Tampa etc cheaping out). May come at the cost of the season though.
I could see the NHL follow suit. Having NHL tv with every game for an annual fee with maybe some of the local teams games on over the air.
MLS started it with Apple TV i.e. now the Messi channel
I think part of the popularity of the NFL is games being on over the air and everyone being able to access even if they cant afford to go to games or buy a cable subscription (they'll still buy merch etc). If they ever decline I think it will be due to greed and them putting every game behind a paywall. They explored it with the chiefs play off game last year.

The original post on it was about it being over the air. But I’m all for a streaming service, then I can tell Comcast to smd, which would make me immensely happy.

In my experience so far I have seen games on RSN, ESPN, ESPN+, NHL Network and TNT. The problem is that even with their streaming service, I will still need more service for blacked out games on ESPN and NHL Network.

Kraken games won’t be on Root anymore. This is great news as I can ditch Comcast and Root and not help fill John Stanton’s wallet, anymore.
Long story short, Kraken games will be on king 5 and Kong.

And sports coverage in the seattle times just got much better. Tim Booth who worked for the AP is now a writer for the seattle times covering kraken and other sports.
Booth was in my opinion a really good writer. So in a few months we replaced baker with Booth for the coverage in the Seattle times. Shefte took over as the main beat writer after baker left.

Good day, Kraken fans. I'm just a Blues fan stopping by to ask why the heck your home opener is at 1:30 on a Tuesday? Is there some scheduling conflict or what? I'm not complaining as I live in Europe and the early start time is great for me, but I just really need to know the reason.

Weird huh? I'm sure lots of big hockey fans won't even be able to watch their own team's home opener if they work a normal schedule.
For 2 reason why stanley cup champ always gets the 4pm/7pm pacific time slot on opening game and since its florida they get the 4pm slot 2nd thing Utah is having its first game with a franchise so they get the 7pm pacific slot game.

Has there been any hint on how tv viewership figures are so far vs last year? It being on Kong/Prime has been a game changer so far since I didn't have Root. For a new team still establishing relevancy in this market I think it's a big deal being on OTA channels.

They are on KGW and Quest/KGW2 over the air in Oregon and SW Washington.

To add as a separate note. I’m loving the resurgence of local sports teams over the air. It’s great. They channels need content more than ever and it’s great to see it bounce back because of demand.

Part of the lower crowds at Sounders games has been attributed to the games moving to Apple TV from ota. Obviously not the full factor, the team has a lack of new star players and needs a fresh influx so things are a little stale, raised ticket prices, kraken coming in etc

MLS had record attendance this season, even if you remove Messi’s away games it would still have broken the record. I think only a couple of MLS teams saw a downturn in attendance this year. As I understand it, the Apple TV thing may have raised awareness of the league to a younger audience.
