couldn’t watch the game live but saw the scores (and watching now).

I had the privilege of doing the closing speak for a local figure skating club. here was my close:
  • Enough sappy - let me pivot and close with this which is a bit controversial (especially if you ask my wife)
    • Winning Matters - Winning is fun. That is the goal. Full stop.
    • But winning isn’t a destination - it is a journey.
    • You don’t win without a strong work ethic, sacrifice, struggles, culture, and strong leadership
    • So you have to embrace all of that
    • But begin with the end in mind. Go for Gold!
So same thing here. The goal is to win. Did that today. And got an OV goal.

The rules state that if Alex Ovechkin scores he gets the game puck.

Just about proper recognition. Caps were at one point being outshot 29-14, yet not losing. Lindgren kept the team in it. Caps stepped up a bit and outshot them 10-3 from there.
Sure - but those of us who watch know how well he played, and I'm sure he got lots of "attaboys" in the locker room.

Edit: as seen in RedRocking's post of the locker room - Charlie got his props:thumbu:

CMM kinda awkward…..like he’s a shy little brother to all these guys.
Agreed. There is something about his demeanor and sitting in the corner awkwardly taking on kudos. More room here.

And how about Strome. He is basically pacing for an 80 point season. Contributing to OV’s record. And yet people want to demote him to the 3rd line.

I’m wondering how many called goals ovechkin has had taken away over his career? Would 99’s record have been broken already?

The ENG crybabies can put that in their collective pipe and smoke it. Pretty sure Wayne never had to deal with a coaches challenge…
Interesting point. But I bet that number, called back, is less than his empty net goals. But like tonight, those aren’t easy. He has proven that.

Adjusting for era played in, etc., he has about 996 “adjusted goals,” which is way more than anyone else. (And I think this site is including both NHL and WHA goals here, which, if I’m right about that, would mean Gretzky and Howe would be even lower than this in a list of just-NHL adjusted goals.)

Maybe just an introvert or someone who dislikes attention. Lavi seemed to f*** with his head a bit which wasn’t helpful, maybe cuz he didnt fit the mold. Who knows. But Carbs has gotten a lot out of him (hail Carbs) - and the guys in the room seem to know where he’s coming from

Oh, I’m sure it is, JC74 it seems is the one who’s been screwed the most. Lol.

It just happened to pop into my head, the disallowed goal thing. How Wayne never had it, but ovi did/does.

Someone tell Ovie to stop scoring EN goals, it's upsetting people! :eek3::DD

In all seriousness, I don't think I've ever seen a player pot EN goals the way Ovie does. It's almost a guarantee that he's gonna score. Until teams wise up and try something else, that's the way it's gotta be.

Here's how I've always felt about the empty-netter argument. Here's a picture of 99's 802. No better goal to illustrate my point, real big so everyone can see...

During Gretzky's career, and especially early on when he was scoring so many, this kind of shit happened kind of a lot. The goalie is on the ice. You can see him if you squint. ;) Here's the video...

Yes, 99 is a part of a great series of passes that gets the keeper all turned around, and I am not in any way critical of this moment. I LOVED this moment.

But that's an empty net.

It was just easier back then. Ovi being killer at icing games with empty nets is just another type of goal that he's crazy good at scoring. And let's not pretend that he won't spend at least all next season making this point moot regardless.

This isn't Strahan's record sack. No one is letting Ovechkin score...
