Kraken 2025-26 Offseason (different but the same??)

Same. This team needs to get younger and bigger (or stronger as Botterill calls it), and the D needs help (even if Botterill seems to think the D side is ok).
Bigger. Faster for sure. I think the team will actually continue to get younger over the next 2 seasons. We have quite a few expiring contracts over the next 2 seasons. Heck, looking at puckpedia, I would not be surprised if by the start of the 2027-28 season, this roster looks totally different.

Looking at our roster actually gives me hope because by then most of our vets are off the books. Only ones who will be on contracts are Stephenson, Larsson, Daccord and Montour. I expect some of the vets may get re-signed but if Botterill plays his cards right, he can make us competitive by the start of the 2026-27 season. Not enough for a long playoff run I don't think but atleast a competitive playoff contender.

How much $$$ and for how long are you guys wanting to pay Kappo Kakko?

I think it's hard to say.
He was good since coming to the Kraken but it's not like he's a clear cut 1st line NHLer.

I think a bridge deal(3 years) makes the most sense for both sides, but as far as the $ amount goes I'm not so sure.

So maybe a deal of 3 x $5M might make sense for both sides?

I think he had a good January after the trade but seemed to go back to his typical production in Feb, March and April despite playing larger minutes and PP time. Your deal is possible since he is entering his 7th year. I wouldn't want to have to make the decision. ☺️

Hey Habs fan here. I'm not really in tune with the Kraken. I was just wondering what the team management is trying to do in the short term. Continue to build with young pieces? Enter retool? Start to compete right away?

The habs are obviously in need of two big pieces. One of which is a top 4 RHD. Do you think the Kraken would shop Larsson and what do you think would be a realistic asking price?

We’re wondering too.

As to Larsson, there’s maybe four untouchables on the Kraken, and he’s not one of them. With RHD so in demand league wide, the Kraken would likely want a prospect and a pick in return. From a Montreal perspective it would probably entail an overpay, but I can see the Habs doing it, as your competitive window is now wide open.

True. The 2C is will the top priority acquisition wise this offseason. But Habs need a legit top 4 RHD to play with either Guhle or Hutson as Reinbacher will take the other spot. I assume the package for the 2C will be huge but Habs farmteam and pipeline is among the best in the league (Laval was 1st in the AHL this year with mainly prospects). Habs also have a ton of picks in the next two drafts.

Thankfully for the Kraken, the Canucks are gonna be in freefall soon, flames were overachievers with a great rookie goalie, the LA Kings are solid but no world beaters, the Sharks are like 3-5 years away, and Anaheim is still in a rebuild. So all they really need is to fill the holes to insulate their great prospects (Catton, their top 10 pick this year, etc). I think Habs are the perfect trading partners for them this offseason
