Laf now tied with Cuylle for most 5v5 goals on the team, he's (Laf) also 2nd in points 1 behind Panarin.
Jones now has as many 5v5 pts as Fox does, Schneider leads all D-men with 6.
Between then, Mika, Kreider, Trouba, Lindgren and Miller have 10 pts...

We're getting the results more nights than not, but 20% of the way through the season and the vets and highly paid guys really aren't pulling their weight.

True, but I'd rather have balance throughout the lineup than the top-heavy production we've had over the past 3 years now. I think it bodes better for the playoffs.

It's easier to shut down a top heavy team than a balanced one. That's how Panthers beat us and then ultimately the Oilers. Panarin and Laf will get some points, but it can't all fall on their line.

That just reflects how few games they've played so far. Divisional ranking means nothing when the top team played like 5 more games than another team with a better points percentage.

Funny how late bloomers tend to also have late peaks.

Thinking of Panarin, Zuccarello, and Martin St Louis specifically. It's like they're somehow developmentally 5 years behind their whole careers, which means they often play their best hockey untiltheir mid to late 30s.

These are all smaller guys that are known for their hockey IQ and elusiveness when carrying the puck. They probably just continue getting better at reading the ice as they get older.

In the case of Panarin and Zuccarello, it probably also helps that they are presently in an era that has become less physical and defensively oriented as they entered their 30s.

I wonder if Panarin would have been as elite in the trap era of hockey.

Combination of playing the fewest games of all teams , plus the fact that Carolina, NJ, and Washington have all had great starts.

But really don’t care about the standings or banking points. I want this team to actually look like an elite team on the ice, which they haven’t.

Team desperately needs some roster tweaking. The silver lining is, I know Drury knows this as evidenced by him trying his best to get rid of Jacob "No-Move" Trouba. I call him no-move because he has one and he also doesn't really move on the ice. Except to sell out early 2 feet in front of our goalie in an attempt to block a shot.

Outside of maybe Jones, none of our defensemen have the speed/puck skills to rush the puck up the ice if the situation calls for it. We are severely lacking in many fronts in regards to getting up ice.

Quick stole us another one. We'll take it. What a signing and subsequent career resurrection. Honestly I trade Igor at the deadline for whatever you can get and sign quick for another year. Let him split time with our top G prospect whoever wins that battle next year. We're not winning this year with Igor anyway and we're definitely not winning with him at $12M+

Imo both Miller & Schneider can carry the puck with speed.

Quick is great but I would guess that part of the reason is the fact that he's a backup. If you increase his workload or try to make him a starter, it wouldn't surprise me if his play goes south really fast. He's going to be 39 (I think) and giving him a bigger role is asking for trouble IMO, even if it's an even split.

We need to pay Igor. Talent like his is hard to acquire so you take what you can get. Having an elite center (assuming you can even acquire one) doesn't guarantee anything - Oilers have two and haven't won anything yet.

It's up to Drury to maximize talent under the cap. The cap will continue to go up so that will help.
