Would Chicago be interested in him? Don’t they need a bit of size and centre depth? He’s young too so he may develop further
That’s like half a DiPietro
Bottom feeders are a potential destination for sure. IMO CAR wont give up anything to dump the contract since the buyout is only a 1/3 under 26 buyout (8.25M over 10 years) but at 'say' 1M retention, he can provide positive value for teams in need of center depth.Would Chicago be interested in him? Yeah, I look at the Hawks centre depth and they have Bedard, Nazar, Greene and Veleno. Hard to not imagine KK couldn't get some nice ice time thereBottom feeders are a potential destination for sure. Doubt the Canes will have to attach any sort of sweetener. His buyout is too cheap, if he’s traded it will be for something usefulI could see KK and a 2nd to Calgary for future considerations
He would fit in well with the other Calgary misfits
Perhaps you should read the thread before commenting stupid shit.Is a Carolina willing to part with a 1st to get KK off their books?
They can just buy him out on the cheap. Iirc he has till July 1 2026 for 1/3 buy outHow much does Carolina have to pay to dump this albatross
I feel like Farabee is more of the same for Carolina: skilled wingers who aren't that big. If Carolina moves Kotkaniemi (and it's not clear the front office feels that way; they have a ton of cap space and could extend the experiment while still significantly upgrading the roster) I don't think it's for an average sized skilled winger.I'd take KK on the Flames in a heartbeat. We could send Farabee back the other way.
Flames have an abundance of LW's and need to have a succession plan for Backlund. They also need help taking face-offs.
The salary of both are about the same - 4.8M vs 5.0M
The age of both is comparable - 24 vs 25
Not sure what Carolina's requirements are, but the main one according to this thread is to rid themselves of Kotkaniemi.
Ha, KK is one of the most negative valued players in the NHL.Perhaps you should read the thread before commenting stupid shit.
Worst case, less than 1% of the cap next season, with that percentage shrinking by the yearIs a Carolina willing to part with a 1st to get KK off their books?
The issue with your post wasn't that Kotkaniemi isn't very good. The problem with your post was the suggestion of Canes giving a 1st to get rid of him, because his buyout is such a low annual cap hit that it doesn't make sense to give a 1st to get rid of him.Ha, KK is one of the most negative valued players in the NHL.
But they would be fortunate to get a player like this, that was actually scratched in the playoffs, off their books at any price, so buyout here he comes.
" Fourth-line centre Jesperi Kotkaniemi is also not playing on Thursday night, replaced in the bottom-six by Mark Jankowski.
Kotkaniemi, 24, has struggled to provide secondary offence for the Hurricanes, with just three assists in 11 playoff games. The former Montreal Canadiens forward had 12 goals and 33 points in 78 regular-season games."

The contract was bad but that doesn’t necessarily mean they should be trading him or buying him out.Pretty pumped that none of the teams I like didn’t pay their 3C almost $5M until 2030 but you do you
Demko and Andersen as the goalie tandem in Carolina. What could go wrong?Demko for KK+
I think it would depend entirely on how they view KK and his contract as well as if Silovs’ playoff run has given them the confidence to move on from Demko and run a Lankinen/Silovs tandem. But personally I think that + would have to be something like Carolina’s 1st but I don’t consider KK to have great value.Demko and Andersen as the goalie tandem in Carolina. What could go wrong?
Seriously though, as a Canes fan, I'd do that (depending on the +) and take the risk that Demko can stay healthy. I have little confidence in Kochetkov. Andersen is great when he's healthy, but he can't stay healthy.
I agree KK doesn't have great value. On the flip side, a goalie with 1 year left before UFA coming off an injury filled season probably doesn't warrant a 1st, with or without KK. Just my $0.02.I think it would depend entirely on how they view KK and his contract as well as if Silovs’ playoff run has given them the confidence to move on from Demko and run a Lankinen/Silovs tandem.
