Value of: Kotkaniemi

He played 31 minutes on the PK in his whole career so far.

Devils will gladly take him, he's the exact type of guy needed to fill our 3C slot.

People are way too focused on raw point totals when evaluating role players.

Dude was 2nd on the team in 5v5 points this year lol.
I think I'd (and most teams) only be interested if he could reasonably PK. He only played 9:21 last night and that included 3 minutes of PP time where he doesn't seem to be a weapon.

You are hilarious

In the first clip it looks like he jumps into the hit, that's kinda dirty. Second clip is a fight, not sure how this is relevant. 3rd clip is back when he was still bambi. 4th clip is another fight.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do here? You're a big fan of Kotkaniemi? You can keep him then, nobody else wants him.

He’s not soft. Maybe you want more consistent hitting, but he goes into the corners to fight for pucks no problem.

It’s his streakiness that’s the issue. He’ll put together a quarter season that makes you go 2C and then just fall off a cliff. It averages out to meh, but the lows are painful.
He is soft and streaky. It's been like that for a while and he hasn't improved.

He had more points when he was playing for the Canadiens on his ELC.

I'm disproving your statement that he's soft, after educating you about his size.

[...], but he's crazy underrated because of the amount of his draft position and O/S history. Doesn't help when there are so many salty, insecure Habs posters like yourself who choose to ignore the facts in order to dump on him
We're not insecure we saw him play so we know a bit more about him than you do. If you like him that's your problem.

KK is a legit 3C, and his contract isn't even bad. He probably has no value, rather than a negative value like some people suggest.
He's not a legit 3C on a contending team though. Maybe with the Sharks. He's been playing average 10 minutes last two games. Usually 3C play more minutes than that and play on the pk which is not something Kotkaniemi can do.

Classic enigmatic player, then?

I just don't know if his highs are high enough to be worth putting up with the lows. At least some enigmas who flash 1st line ability, you can kind of live with them as a wild card.

If he gets bought out it is probably this year. The cheap 1/3 buyout is for players under 26. he turns 25 on July 6th so can be bought out for cheap this year or next - after than annual cost doubles in real dollars and cap hit.

You could wait until next year but if he is injured he will age out before you can do cheap buyout. I suspect its buyout this off season or not at all

You are hilarious. Dude is heavy on the forecheck and is one of the only Canes who will stand up for his teammates consistently.

Many kinds of softness. Hitting and fighting is one, board battles is another, going to the areas it takes to score is another. Grinding through is another.

He might have the tools but clearly with his size and tools he should be producing more something is off

To Pittsburgh

Jesperi Kotkaniemi
Jackson Blake

to Carolina

Erik Karlsson @7M
No. I don't believe KKs value is negative (if it is they'll just buy him out) and regardless the difference between a 30% retained Karlsson isn't Blake.

He was literally 2nd on the team in 5v5 scoring this year, and he's top 60 among centers in 5v5 p/60 since he became a Hurricane.
